Garrett, eyes gleaming with excitement, exclaimed, “Night Feast, your chess game could really use some work!”
Oliver chuckled, “Uncle, I’ll admit defeat without any complaints.”
Reid, overhearing the conversation, chimed in, “Oliver’s chess skills are nothing to write home about, huh?”
Dorian raised an eyebrow, “You really think Oliver’s chess game is that bad?”
Calix jumped in, “Rumor has it Oliver’s pretty good. He even beat Grandpa Robert once.”
Josefina instantly realized that Oliver had intentionally lost to Garrett. The brothers didn’t say a word; they were all in on the unspoken truth.
Sensing the awkward tension, Josefina quickly interjected, “I did the sketch, so it should be pretty accurate. Dorian, Reid, Calix, if you guys see anyone who matches it, snap a pic and send it to me, or give me a call to confirm.”
The brothers nodded in agreement, and Dorian even shared the sketch in the family group chat to get everyone involved.
...
Josefina walked over to Oliver, who was still engrossed in his chess game with Garrett. She nudged him gently, “Oliver, it’s getting late. You should head home.”
It was then that Garrett checked the time and realized it was already nine o’clock.
“Oliver, Josie’s right. You’d better get going and rest up. We can play another time,” Garrett said.
Keeping a straight face, Oliver replied, “Alright, I’ll head out then.”
Dorian quickly stood up and offered, “I’ll walk you out.”
Oliver had hoped Josefina would see him off, but Dorian beat her to it. Oliver knew exactly what Dorian was up to.
“No need to fuss, I can manage on my own,” Oliver said.
