Lena let out a sardonic chuckle, casting a disdainful glance at Josefina, who looked utterly disheveled. Her eyes harbored a venomous glare. "So, if I lose, I'm supposed to spill the beans about him? Josefina, you've got quite the little scheme cooked up. Too bad, I'm not going to tell you who he is!"
Resigned to her fate, Lena was determined not to make things easy for Josefina. If Josefina was miserable, that was Lena's silver lining.
Lena couldn't stand; her legs throbbed with pain, leaving her complexion as pale as a ghost. The summer breeze was scorching, carrying the stench of blood, attracting a swarm of flies that buzzed around Lena as if she were a piece of trash. In a fit of irritation, Lena swatted at the flies to no avail. The flies were as annoying as Lena herself, souring the mood for everyone around.
Josefina and Oliver watched Lena's pathetic state without a flicker of emotion on their faces. Josefina taunted, "Looks like you're quite aware that your knight in shining armor isn't coming to save you, Lena. After all those years trailing behind him, betraying the Harrison family, and for what? You've ended up with nothing. How pitiful, Lena."
"How dare you?" Lena hissed. "I'm in this mess because of you! If you hadn't shown up, I wouldn't have been exposed!"
"Live by the sword, die by the sword," Josefina retorted. "You've done too many despicable things; it was only a matter of time before karma caught up to you. I'm offering you an out, and you turn it down. Who's to blame for that?"
Oliver chimed in with praise, "Josie's got it spot on. No point casting pearls before swine. She's too dense to understand anyway."
Lena was seething, her rage boiling over as she grabbed a nearby rock and hurled it at Josefina. With a swift kick, Oliver deflected the stone, glaring at Lena with deadly intent. "You want to die that badly? I can oblige."
A weapon appeared in Oliver's grasp, his eyes radiating a murderous intent as he glared at Lena, itching to finish her off. Josefina grabbed Oliver's arm, coaxing him to lower the weapon.
"Oliver, don't be rash. A quick death would be too merciful for Lena."
Lena, feeling cornered, shouted, "Josefina, you wretch, what are you planning to do to me?"
Josefina's lips curled into a cunning smile. "I'm going to make you wish you were dead. It would be too easy to let you off the hook now."
