Finley called Oliver, his voice a mix of pain and regret. "Oliver, man, your girlfriend's got a mean punch. My back is killing me."
Oliver couldn't help but chuckle. "Well, isn't that the price you pay for being a player?"
Finley was silent for a moment before bursting out, "Oliver, seriously? Are you even on my side?"
"I'm a man, Finley, not a player."
Finley was taken aback. "Really, Oliver?!"
It seemed like Oliver was rubbing it in on purpose. "Man, are we still bros? How can you say that to me? Livia and I just weren’t a good match. I’ve already ended things."
"Breaking up doesn’t erase the hurt you caused, Finley. Hope you don’t regret it."
With that, Oliver hung up, leaving Finley to stew in his thoughts. Oliver then resumed his wait in the hospital corridor, waiting for Josefina's return.
Finally, Josefina arrived, carrying a bag of clothes. Seeing her, Oliver's face lit up with a smile. He stood up and walked towards her. "Josie, I got a nurse to stay with her. She was about to head home, but I convinced her to stay an extra hour with some extra cash. She agreed."
Thanks to Oliver’s persuasion, the nurse seemed pretty content with the arrangement. "Oliver, thank you so much."
"Come on, Josie. No need to thank me."
After Josefina went in, the nurse clocked out for the day. Inside, Josefina had brought Livia some clothes and even managed to grab some chicken soup for her.
Tears streamed down Josefina’s face. Livia wasn’t just a friend; she was family. Together, they had trained, completed missions, and made a living. Josefina, unable to control her emotions, began to cry.
"Livia, why were you at the bar? What happened?"
Livia, a bit embarrassed, shared her story. "Finley called me, said he wanted to meet at the bar. I could tell he was drunk, and I was worried, so I went. But when I entered the private room, the door was locked from the outside, and I was grabbed by a few guys. They... they tried to take advantage of me. I fought back, smashing a bottle over one of them and managed to escape. Then, I ran into a guy who said he knew you."
Josefina’s anger flared. She couldn’t believe Livia had gone to the bar out of concern for Finley. Could love really make someone so blind? Josefina had never experienced it herself and didn’t understand it. She couldn’t bring herself to scold Livia for it. Maybe it was because Livia loved Finley so much that she rushed to his side at the first sign of trouble.
"Josie, I realize my mistake now..." Livia sobbed uncontrollably. The loss of the child was a devastating blow.
Josefina pulled out a tissue to wipe Livia's tears, reminiscing about the strong and spirited Livia she knew. This wasn’t her. After some comforting words, Livia managed to calm down.
