Amelia and Tamia headed straight up to the luxury floor.
Tamia had just gotten promoted to sales director and crushed it this quarter, so she was celebrating with her fat bonus check.
They walked into this upscale handbag boutique.
Amelia immediately spotted this stunning bag in the window.
I was a sage green structured tote–such a sophisticated shade.
Tamia had been talking about wanting a good work bag, and this one was absolutely perfect.
melia pointed to the sage green tote in the display. “Tam, check that one out. The color’s so chic and low–key–totally you.”
amia followed her gaze and her face lit up. “Holy shit, that’s gorgeous! I’ve been hunting for the perfect tote forever, but could never find the right color.”
hey strolled into the store and a sales associate immediately swooped in.
amia didn’t mess around. “Can I see that one in the window?”
he associate smiled and retrieved the bag. “Excellent choice! This is from our latest drop–super unique colorway, and the leather is buttery soft but really urable for everyday use.”
amia grabbed the bag and slung it over her shoulder, turning to Amelia. “Okay, be honest–does this work on me?”
melia nodded enthusiastically. “It’s literally perfect. The color is so you, and the size is ideal–professional but still stylish.”
amia was sold. “Done. Ring me up.”
he associate practically glowed. “Wonderful, I’ll get that wrapped for you right away.”
amia paid without blinking, and they bounced out with her new bag.
valking past this men’s accessories store, Amelia suddenly remembered Cassian’s birthday was coming up.
he drifted over to the display case and these incredible diamond cufflinks caught her eye.
hey were set with flawless stones–classic and expensive but not gaudy. So Cassian’s aesthetic.
amia caught her staring. “Ooh, shopping for the hubby?”
melia’s cheeks went pink. “His birthday’s next week. I should probably get him something, right? These cufflinks are pretty nice.”
he was totally mesmerized by them.
amia’s eyebrows shot up with this shit–stirring grin. “Aww, already stressing about his birthday? You two are really doing this marriage thing!”
melia bumped her shoulder. “Shut up! I just think… we’re married now, so a birthday gift is normal.”
amia nodded, trying to look serious. “Totally normal. Those cufflinks are fire–very CEO vibes, and he’ll think of you every time he wears them.”
hat made Amelia go crimson. “You’re insane!”
But she really did love them.
Hi, could I take a look at those diamond cufflinks?” Amelia asked the sales guy.
‘I’d like to see those cufflinks as well,” another voice chimed in at the exact same moment, pointing to the identical pair.
Amelia’s stomach dropped as she turned around.
Oh, for fuck’s sake.
She must have seriously pissed off the universe today–how else would she keep bumping into Sonia everywhere?

When Sonia spotted Amelia, she paused before saying with fake sweetness, “Well, well. Ms. Sterling. Seems like we have very similar taste.”
They were both eyeing the same cufflinks.
Amelia kept her smile tight but polite. “What are the odds? Though I’m pretty sure there’s a first come, first served policy here. My bad, Ms. Vind.”
These particular cufflinks were exclusive and limited edition–literally the only pair like this in
Sonia looked directly at Amelia, her voice cutting through the boutique’s polished atmosphere. “Look, Amelia, you can’t force something that was never meant to be yours. I’m sure you’ve seen the tabloids by now, so let’s drop the pretense.”
Amelia’s eyebrow arched. Oh, so we’re done playing games now?
Before, it had been all subtle digs and passive aggressive hints. Now Sonia was going full scorched earth.
Not that Amelia could blame her for the desperation, Jenny had done some digging and discovered that Cassian and Amelia were actually living together. This norning, Cassian had even driven her to the mall himself.
So what were they exactly? A couple?
he revelation had sent Sonia spiraling. She’d always pegged Cassian as the type who kept women at arm’s length–reserved, emotionally constipated, the whole ine yards. But here he was, shacked up with Amelia like some lovesick teenager.
t completely blindsided her.
here was a time when Sonia had been the only woman in Cassian’s world. How the hell was she supposed to just roll over and accept this?
[ her competition had been some blue–blood heiress or career powerhouse, maybe Sonia could have swallowed her pride. But Amelia? She was nobody pecial–just another pretty face you’d find at any Starbucks in Manhattan.
What gave her the right to be with him?
amia had caught the gossip sites too. She’d meant to ask Amelia about it earlier, but they’d gotten sidetracked. Seeing Sonia now brought it all flooding back.
ut watching Sonia’s hostile body language made Tamia’s stomach turn.
jesus, what’s the world coming to? Homewreckers used to at least have the decency to stay in the shadows. Now they’re bold enough to start drama right in
ront of the actual wife? That’s some next–level audacity right there.”
onia’s face went cold. “Excuse me? Who the hell are you calling a homewrecker? In case you missed the memo, the person who isn’t loved is the real third
heel here.”
melia’s voice turned deadly quiet. “So you’re telling me you and Cassian are in love?”
few weeks ago, Amelia might not have had the balls to call Sonia out like this. But after last night–after they’d finally crossed that line and become a real arried couple–everything felt different. She could feel how Cassian looked at her now, like she was something precious he was afraid to break.
he’d been around him long enough to read him pretty well. Cassian wasn’t some player who collected women like trophies. He was solid, deliberate about his hoices. If he actually had feelings for Sonia, why the hell would he have married her? He’d been crystal clear about not treating marriage like some casual
ookup.
nd last night… God, she wasn’t even sure if she’d imagined it, but she could swear he’d whispered “I love you” against her ear. It was right in the middle of verything, when her whole world had narrowed down to just his voice–rough and tender at the same time. The words had hit her like electricity, and even if he’d misheard, the feeling was burned into her memory.
onia’s mask slipped for just a second before she pulled herself together. She laughed, but there was no warmth in it. “Really, Amelia? You think Cassian ctually gives a damn about you? He married you because his family was breathing down his neck about settling down, and I had my career to think about.”
Cassian’s bankrolled movies and TV projects for me. If I ever needed him, he’d drop everything and come running. We could test that theory if you want.” onia’s smile was pure poison.
Amelia felt like someone had just punched her in the gut.
Why was Sonia so damn confident? Was there actually something going on between them?
