**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**
By J.S. Caldwell
**Chapter 366**
As Samuel assisted Jayceon in preparing to leave, Amanda rose from her seat, a bright smile illuminating her face.
“Actually,” she announced, her tone cheerful, “I need to swing by the hospital to pick up some medication for my grandmother. I’d be happy to give Mr. Melendez a ride!”
Jayceon, with a hint of confusion, turned to Amanda. “Didn’t you already pick up the medicine when you visited me at the hospital, Miss?”
Without a flicker of hesitation, Amanda replied, “I had every intention of doing so, but then I learned you had left the hospital despite your injuries. My parents and I were so concerned about your well-being that it completely slipped my mind.”
Amanda’s mother, clearly displeased, interjected, “Mr. Melendez, what are you insinuating?”
Jayceon, maintaining his composure, simply stated, “Just asking.”
The air in the room thickened, a palpable tension settling among them.
Samuel, sensing the unease, quickly attempted to ease the situation. “Miss, there’s truly no need for this disagreement. I’m stronger, and it would be far more convenient for me to take Jay!”
**Chapter 386**
Just as Samuel finished his sentence, Sir’s authoritative voice broke through the tension. “Sam, you stay put. Let Miss take Jay back to the hospital on her way.”
With Sir’s command echoing in the air, Samuel, recognizing his status as a guest, reluctantly released his hold on Jayceon.
Amanda moved to Jayceon’s side, but he remained rooted in place, his expression unyielding. He scanned the room, meeting the eyes of everyone present, and turned to Amanda with an unwavering tone. “Miss, the engagement was conceived by my grandfather and father. I never had any desire to be engaged to you.”
At that moment, the room erupted in a wave of shocked expressions. It wasn’t just Sir and Conrad whose faces reflected disbelief; even Amanda’s parents were visibly taken aback.
Amanda’s father, unable to contain his frustration, slammed his hand on the table, rising to his feet in indignation. “The engagement was an agreement between our two families! If you had no intention of following through, why didn’t you voice that sooner?”
Amanda’s mother, her voice dripping with pride, added, “Even though the Melendez family is the most esteemed in Zelmere, it’s common knowledge that Mr. Melendez had a mistress during his marriage, leading to divorce. My daughter has dedicated herself to her career, exhibiting discipline and self-respect. The Collins Clan is unfazed by Mr. Melendez’s past, yet now he dares to criticize my daughter?”
Conrad and Tabitha exchanged worried glances, attempting to mediate the escalating conflict, while Sir remained silent, a stoic observer.
The atmosphere was thick with tension, oppressive and uncomfortable.
As Amanda spoke, both Conrad and Sir nodded in agreement, showering her with praise.
Turning to Sir, Amanda continued, “Sir, since Mr. Melendez has other commitments, it would be wise not to pressure him any further. Let him pursue his own path.”
Sir looked at Amanda, curiosity etched on his face. “Are you suggesting that you wish to abandon this marriage alliance?”
With a gentle smile, Amanda replied, “Sir, I have always admired Mr. Melendez’s keen business sense and approach. If this alliance were to materialize, it would be a remarkable advancement for both the Melendez family and the Collins Clan!”
She added thoughtfully, “But as the saying goes, what rises must eventually fall. My hope is for our two families to unite and foster harmony. Sir, perhaps it would be prudent to first mend the relationships within your own family. If you continue to press Mr. Melendez, it could backfire, benefiting no one.”
Seeing Sir and Conrad nodding in understanding, Amanda declared, “Conrad, you and Sir should focus on your family matters. Allow me to handle the rest.”
With a firm grip on her purse, she mentioned that Jayceon was still waiting for her in the car and turned to leave.
Behind her, Sir and Conrad exchanged glances filled with admiration, their eyes sparkling with approval for Amanda’s wisdom.
Tabitha sat quietly beside Conrad, her silence a stark contrast to the praise surrounding Amanda, realizing that this young woman was far more rational and astute than she had ever anticipated.
