**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**
**By J.S. Caldwell**
**Chapter 141**
Jayceon cast a stoic glance at Arabella, who sat rigidly beside him, her demeanor a mix of determination and apprehension. “Don’t worry, Grandfather,” he stated with a calm authority. “I’ll take care of this scandal swiftly.”
Arabella, her mind racing with thoughts, waited for Jayceon to finish before she spoke, her voice steady yet cautious. “I’m willing to cooperate in clearing up the rumor, but I have conditions that must be met.”
Her assertiveness drew a sharp frown from Conrad, who was clearly displeased. “You are a daughter-in-law of the Melendez family! It is your duty to protect the interests of this family!” he barked, his voice echoing with indignation.
Arabella met his gaze without flinching. “Dad, which law of marriage dictates that a wife must cover for her husband’s mistress and illegitimate child? And why should I be the one to clean up his mess?”
Conrad’s face flushed with rage, his anger palpable. “You, a fallen heiress, negotiate terms with us? You need to understand your place!”
Arabella, standing her ground, exuded a quiet confidence. “Regardless of how the Melendez family views my status, if you want my cooperation in quelling this scandal, you must promise that no one in your family will interfere with my career or threaten my family in any way.”
She had plans to begin her position at the Hamilton family’s private hospital after the New Year, and her family and career were non-negotiable. She would not allow anyone to trample over her aspirations.
As she spoke, Jayceon’s expression darkened, his thoughts swirling. So, this was the extent of her anxiety—the fear that his grandfather would meddle in her professional life once more.
Conrad’s voice rose, filled with disdain. “You ungrateful child! The esteemed Mrs. Melendez stooping to earn a meager salary? You’re nothing but a disgrace to the Melendez name.”
Jayceon interjected, his voice firm but supportive. “Dad, please don’t be so harsh. I stand by Arabella in her pursuit of a career.”
Arabella remained steadfast beside Jayceon, unaffected by his words of support.
After a lengthy silence, the tension hung heavily in the air until Sir finally relented. “It’s commendable for a young person to aspire to work. We agree to your terms. But you know what is expected of you at the press conference tomorrow morning.”
Arabella felt a wave of relief wash over her, the tension in her body finally dissipating. She retrieved a voice recorder from her bag, her expression serious as she addressed Sir. “Grandfather, your word is your bond. I’m recording this as proof. From this moment on, no one in the Melendez family can interfere with my work or threaten my family. I will cooperate unconditionally for the sake of the Melendez family’s interests.”
Sir’s gaze flickered to the device in her hand, a spark of admiration igniting in his eyes. She was indeed a daughter of high society—possessing not only courage but also the cunning to stand her ground, far superior to that woman named Carrillo.
