Chapter 16

Jayceon picked up the divorce papers and quickly scanned through them. His eyes then lifted to meet Arabella’s, calm and steady as ever. Without a hint of anger, he closed the document and set it gently back on the table.

“You’ve got some nerve asking me for a divorce,” he said quietly, his voice carrying a weight that made the room feel heavier.

Arabella rose slowly from her chair, the years of love and heartbreak weighing on her shoulders. After all the time they had spent together, she only wanted a clean break now. Her gaze dropped to the papers once more.

With as much composure as she could muster, she spoke softly, “You’ve done a lot for the Palmer family over the years. I’m not asking for anything. I’ll walk away with nothing. Everything you own is tied to the Melendez Group’s reputation. You can’t afford a scandal. If it comes to it, I’m willing to hold a press conference and take all the blame myself. I’ll protect that woman and your child’s names.”

Jayceon leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose in weariness. “Go on,” he said, his voice low and tired.

Arabella’s face was blank, drained of emotion. “I’ve already signed the papers. Whenever you’re ready, we can go get the divorce certificate.”

She reached for her wedding ring, the symbol of their union, ready to slip it off her finger right in front of him. But before she could, Jayceon grasped her hand firmly to stop her.

Slowly rising to his feet, his eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her heart skip. “Arabella, Gina and I… we’re not what you think,” he said quietly.

Arabella jerked her hand free, the flood of pain and resentment she had been holding back over the past few days finally breaking through. Her eyes reddened as she met his gaze, her voice steady but laced with hurt. “Then what exactly are you?”

She took a shaky breath and continued, “You picked her up at the airport in the pouring rain, in the middle of the night. You didn’t come home for over a month. Don’t tell me you didn’t hug her, kiss her, sleep with her. And don’t you dare say that child isn’t yours.”

Jayceon’s expression darkened, a shadow crossing his face. “Arabella, you always say you love me. Don’t you trust me at all?”

“Trust?” Arabella took a step back, stumbling over the word. Her frustration boiled over and she shoved him hard, her voice rising. “It was our third anniversary! I made a candlelit dinner, prepared a gift for you. But you… you booked out the entire Mondi Beach to watch fireworks with your beloved and your son! And now you want to talk to me about trust?”

Jayceon’s eyes turned cold. “Kim told you?”

Tears finally spilled down Arabella’s cheeks. His admission hit her like a punch to the gut.

Her voice trembled as she spoke, “Jayceon, after we got married, I learned how to cook, clean, do laundry—even how to tie a tie—all for you. I gave everything I had. I was always scared I wouldn’t be enough for you.”
