**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**
**By J.S. Caldwell**
**Chapter 233**
With an urgent grip, Jayceon clasped Arabella’s wrist, his face a canvas of frustration mingled with determination. “I’ve wiped every trace of Georgina from my phone, and I’ve already apologized to you. Can we not put an end to this hostility?”
Their gazes clashed in a charged silence, and Arabella, feeling the heat radiating from the confrontation, wrenched her hand away from his grasp, a spark of defiance igniting within her.
The atmosphere in the Clemons’ dining room crackled with tension, the whispers of the guests swirling around like venomous serpents, each word a dagger aimed at her heart. Just imagining the judgmental glances and hushed conversations made her stomach twist in knots, and she couldn’t help but wonder how it was affecting Conrad.
Julian had vowed to ensure the safety of her family, but tonight, she was about to uncover which of the three esteemed families—the Melendez, the Vance, or the Clemons—held the most sway in this intricate web of power.
A surge of determination coursed through her veins as she contemplated testing Julian’s influence over both the Clemons and Melendez families. Could he truly possess the strength to aid her in her quest for freedom, to help her break free from the suffocating bonds of her marriage?
As Arabella and Jayceon entered the living room, their shoulders brushing against one another, an unexpected projectile hurtled through the air—a teacup aimed with alarming precision at her head.
In a split second, Jayceon’s instincts kicked in. He yanked Arabella into his protective embrace just in time, the cup narrowly missing them and shattering against the floor, the sound slicing through the tense silence like a gunshot.
As he released her, Jayceon turned to face his grandfather, Sir, who stood defiantly by the main sofa, leaning heavily on his cane, a figure of authority and disdain. With a finger pointed accusingly, he barked, “Get on your knees!”
Arabella felt a wave of defiance wash over her, a fire igniting within her as she pushed Jayceon aside and stepped boldly toward Sir, her expression cold and resolute. “Grandfather, if you have something to say, then say it. Don’t order me around as if I’m one of your subordinates. I’m not your grandson, and I owe you no submission.”
Conrad, witnessing Arabella’s audacity, erupted with indignation, his voice rising to a fever pitch. “Since you married into the Melendez family, you are one of us! You must abide by our family’s rules. When an elder commands you to kneel, you kneel!”
Jayceon stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Arabella, his voice steady and firm. “Grandfather, Dad, if you have an issue, direct it at me. Do not speak to my wife in that manner.”
The word “wife” hung heavily in the air, a weight that made Arabella’s heart flutter with discomfort. She gently pushed Jayceon away, her gaze locking onto Sir’s. “I did marry into the Melendez family, but have you ever treated me as one of your own?”
Her voice grew stronger, filled with conviction that resonated in the charged atmosphere. “Your grandson betrayed me and fathered a child with another woman. Have you ever considered my perspective as an elder? Have you ever thought about how this has affected me?”
Jayceon’s eyes bore into hers, a tempest of unreadable emotions swirling within them, yet he remained silent, caught in the crossfire.
Conrad’s fury boiled over as he shouted, “You’re nothing but a bankrupt heiress! You’ve been married to Jay for three or four years and haven’t given him a child. The fact that he hasn’t divorced you is already more than generous, and yet you’re still unsatisfied!”
Arabella shot back, her voice slicing through the tension like a sharp knife. “Georgina has given your family an heir. She and her child are the true Melendez family. If you’re so desperate for a grandson, why don’t you bring them into the fold?”
