**Her Spark Ignites Tonight**

**Chapter 296**
Conrad’s fist met the table with a resounding thud, causing the glasses to rattle precariously. He rose to his full height, a storm brewing in his eyes. “The Melendez family is an old money dynasty,” he declared, his voice a mixture of authority and indignation. “Even if we were to lose a few more multi-billion dollar contracts, it wouldn’t even cause a ripple in our foundation. Business is akin to warfare. If the Vance family truly wishes to position themselves as our adversaries, Jay, you need not hold back!”
Jayceon, keenly aware of the tension in the room, discreetly studied Tabitha’s expression. He could see the flicker of surprise cross her face, a fleeting moment that revealed her thoughts.
“Dad,” he interjected, his tone measured, “Julian and Mom are half-siblings. This entire mess began because of my involvement. I’ll do everything in my power to mediate!”
Tabitha’s eyebrows shot up in disbelief. She had not anticipated such a conciliatory stance from her son. The values that Conrad had instilled in Jayceon were steeped in a ruthless business mentality, one that often placed familial bonds beneath the cold calculus of profit and loss.
The men of the Melendez lineage operated under a strict code: compassion was a liability, righteousness a hindrance, emotionality a weakness, and kindness an obstacle to power. They were trained to prioritize their self-interests above all else, navigating challenges with a dispassionate clarity that often bordered on brutality.
Yet, when it came to matters of the heart, they were utterly inept.
Later that day, during her lunch break, Arabella received a sudden call from Jayceon, prompting her to leave the hospital without hesitation. The moment she slid into the car, she sensed a shift in the atmosphere. Jayceon was silent, his mood heavy and brooding.
Arabella crossed her arms, her lips forming a slight pout as she awaited him to break the silence.
After what felt like an eternity, Jayceon finally turned to her, his gaze penetrating. “I had no idea you were so capable,” he stated, his tone ambiguous, leaving Arabella uncertain if she should take it as a compliment or an affront.
“Could you clarify that?” she replied, her voice steady but laced with curiosity.
“Julian has stolen a multi-billion dollar project from the Melendez Corporation to coerce me into divorcing you. Were you aware of this?”
Arabella’s heart raced, a cold shiver running down her spine. She had only mentioned it casually, never imagining that Julian would leverage such a significant project to manipulate Jayceon into ending their marriage.
How could she ever repay such a colossal debt?
From the look on Arabella’s face, Jayceon realized she had been kept in the dark about the unfolding chaos.
“Arabella,” he continued, his voice firm yet tinged with concern, “the Melendez family is steeped in old money. Our reputation as the wealthiest in Zelmere is not merely for show. If Julian instigates a business war against us over this, he won’t just be challenging our family; he will be up against the other prominent families that stand with us. Is that the outcome you desire?”
Arabella felt her confidence waver under the weight of his words. She knew he spoke the truth, yet the thought of retreating felt like surrender.
“Jayceon,” she said, her voice steady, “things have escalated beyond repair. Just divorce me. It would be better for everyone involved.”
