Chapter 30
Kimberly stooped down near the doorway, her fingers curling around a pair of men’s slippers left carelessly by the entrance. She glanced at the size and immediately recognized it—it matched Jayceon’s exactly.
A surge of anger she had barely managed to suppress flared up inside her once more.
With a sharp clatter, Kimberly flung the slippers onto the floor. Her voice dripped with biting sarcasm as she sneered, “Is this your gilded cage that Jay built just for you?”
Georgina quickly stepped forward, trying to diffuse the tension. “Ms. Melendez, you’re misunderstanding everything. What Jay and I had is in the past now.”
Kimberly advanced slowly toward Georgina, her heels clicking deliberately against the floor. Suddenly, she reached out and yanked one of Georgina’s earrings from her ear.
Georgina gasped sharply, the sting of pain evident, but she forced herself to remain composed. She cupped her ear protectively and took a cautious step backward.
Pointing accusingly at the earring, Kimberly’s tone grew razor-sharp. “Ms. Carrillo, did you buy these brand-new Dior diamond earrings with your own money, or were they Jay’s gift? They cost tens of thousands, after all.”
Georgina didn’t hesitate to answer honestly. “Jay gave them to me.”
Without warning, Kimberly grabbed a handful of Georgina’s hair and yanked her forward. “And this is what you call ‘belongs to the past’?”
Her hair pulled taut, Georgina struggled to explain, her words tumbling out in a messy rush. “Ms. Melendez, you’ve got it all wrong. Jay and I are nothing like what you’re imagining. Believe me, you’re mistaken.”
Disgust flashed in Kimberly’s eyes. “Georgina, do you even know Jay is married? He has a wife. Yet you call him and text him in the middle of the night. What exactly do you think you’re doing?”
Georgina’s eyes dropped to the floor as she scrambled to defend herself. “Ms. Melendez, there can be pure friendship between men and women. Don’t assume everyone is as corrupt as you seem to think.”
Kimberly ground her teeth in frustration. “Pure friendship? You blow up Jay’s phone at midnight every single night. If you’re that desperate for a man, just admit it. I can find you a dozen guys in no time.”
As she spoke, Kimberly tugged Samuel forward and pushed him toward Georgina.
Samuel raised his hands halfway, clearly caught off guard and unsure how to respond.
Kimberly sneered, “Mr. Brennan here comes from one of Zelmere’s four most powerful families. He’s wealthy, handsome, and has a killer physique. If he isn’t enough to satisfy you, I can even arrange some gigolos to keep you company. You’d be living the dream.”
Samuel frowned. “I’m not interested in single moms.”
Georgina looked uncomfortable, tears of frustration welling in her eyes.
She forced out a shaky defense. “Ms. Melendez, I honestly don’t know what I did to offend you. Please, let’s talk this through. There’s truly nothing going on between Jay and me.”
