**Chapter 301**
The atmosphere in the hospital room was thick with tension, a palpable chaos that seemed to engulf everything around them.
It was well over an hour later when Steve finally made his way to Jayceon’s hospital room. His entrance was marked by a sense of weariness, as if the weight of the world rested upon his shoulders.
As soon as Steve stepped inside, the troll, who had been lingering in the background, abruptly stood up and exited, leaving the two men alone. The door clicked shut behind him, sealing off the outside world.
Jayceon, propped up against the pillows, looked at Steve with a mixture of concern and curiosity. “So, what happened?” he inquired, his voice steady despite the chaos that had just unfolded.
Steve took a deep breath, preparing to recount the events that had transpired. He shared the story of his encounter with Georgina, detailing how it had spiraled into a confrontation with his wife and sister-in-law, resulting in a rather painful lesson in domestic disputes. “I didn’t see it coming,” he admitted, his voice tinged with embarrassment.
Jayceon offered him a reassuring smile, his tone softening. “It’s not embarrassing to get beaten by your wife. Just hang in there for a bit longer. You’ll get through this.” He could see the dejection in Steve’s eyes, and it tugged at his heartstrings.
Noticing Steve’s glum expression, Jayceon decided to lighten the mood. “Once this is all over, I’ll give you a month of paid leave and double your year-end bonus,” he promised, his eyes glinting with mischief.
Immediately, Steve’s demeanor shifted. Hope sparked in his eyes as he replied, “Mr. Melendez, Ms. Carrillo borrowed ten thousand dollars from me.”
At that revelation, Jayceon’s brow furrowed in confusion. The mention of Georgina’s financial dealings only deepened the mystery surrounding her.
—
Even amidst the turmoil, Georgina had yet to reach out to Leandro’s biological father for assistance.
Who was this man, lurking in the shadows of her life?
Did he hold the key to unraveling the enigma of Mark’s death?
What secrets was Georgina keeping, buried deep within her heart?
Later that afternoon, Arabella entered the hospital room, only to find Jayceon alone. The room felt heavy with unspoken words.
“Help me to the bathroom,” Jayceon said, extending his hand toward her, his voice laced with a hint of desperation.
Arabella paused, arching an eyebrow. “Jayceon, your legs aren’t broken. Do you really have to be so dramatic?” she replied, her tone a mix of exasperation and amusement.
“Remember your promise to take care of me? Is this how you show your support? You won’t even help me up?” Jayceon’s voice held a playful challenge, but his eyes bore a hint of vulnerability.
With a reluctant sigh, Arabella moved closer to assist him. “Maybe we should just have Georgina come take care of you instead,” she suggested, half-joking.
Before she could finish her thought, Jayceon playfully shoved her away. He managed to walk briskly into the bathroom, leaving Arabella momentarily speechless.
It seemed she would have to endure this situation until Jayceon was finally discharged.
A moment later, the troll knocked and entered the room, immediately sensing the tension in the air. Spotting Arabella’s worried frown, he teased, “What are you thinking about? Your eyebrows are all tied in a knot.”
Arabella forced a smile. “It’s nothing, really.”
The troll continued, “Arabella, let’s go racing when you have some free time.”
“Okay!” she responded enthusiastically, eager for a distraction.
