**Chapter 375**
As Samuel observed Jayceon’s complexion drain of all color, a palpable tension hung in the air. Jayceon was clutching his chest, his expression twisted in a mix of shock and distress, as if he were teetering on the edge of collapse. Without a moment’s hesitation, Samuel halted in his tracks, concern flooding his thoughts.
In the opulent first-floor banquet hall, Arabella made an entrance that turned heads, gliding gracefully on the arm of Zachary Hamilton. She wore a breathtaking white satin strapless gown that hugged her waist perfectly, exuding elegance and confidence.
While the guests around her were busy appraising her appearance, Arabella’s keen eyes were discreetly scanning the atmosphere of the Caldwell family’s lavish evening gathering. The air was thick with extravagance; the glimmer of crystal chandeliers reflected off polished surfaces, and laughter echoed like music throughout the hall.
It was clear that the Caldwell family’s newly arrived third mistress was enjoying a favored status among the guests. However, Arabella’s attention was drawn elsewhere. Her gaze inadvertently locked with Olivia Walton’s from across the room, and the unsettling smile that danced on Olivia’s lips sent a shiver down Arabella’s spine, igniting a sense of foreboding within her.
Just then, a sharply dressed middle-aged man approached, his suit tailored to perfection, and beckoned Zachary away. Before departing, Zachary leaned in closer, his voice low and filled with concern. “Remember, Samuel is on the second floor. Don’t stray too far, okay?”
Arabella offered him a reassuring smile, her heart warmed by his worry. “Zachary, you go handle your business. I’ll be perfectly fine on my own.”
Once Zachary was out of sight, Arabella sought refuge in a quiet corner, hoping to remain unnoticed amidst the swirling crowd.
As she leaned against the wall, watching the festivities unfold, her stomach twisted into knots when she spotted Georgina’s brother and sister-in-law approaching, their expressions a mixture of disdain and arrogance. Olivia flanked them, a triumphant smirk plastered across her face.
Arabella braced herself as they drew near, her voice steady but guarded. “What brings you here?”
Georgina’s sister-in-law stifled a laugh, her eyes glinting with malice. “What a curious question, Dr. Palmer. If you’re allowed at the Caldwell family’s private dinner, why shouldn’t we be here?”
Georgina’s brother stepped forward, his face contorted with hatred. “You’ve ruined my sister’s life, and now it’s your turn to face the consequences.”
Arabella met his glare with icy composure. “Georgina committed murder. It was Mr. Melendez himself who sentenced her to prison. I had nothing to do with it! If you’re looking for someone to blame, it shouldn’t be me!”
Olivia chimed in, her voice dripping with venom. “That’s not entirely fair, Dr. Palmer. If you hadn’t interfered between Mr. Melendez and Georgina, she would have been Mrs. Melendez by now. And had she held that title, do you truly believe Mr. Melendez would have had the heart to imprison her?”
Georgina’s sister-in-law, filled with arrogance, added, “You, Palmer! You’ve destroyed Georgina’s life, and being cast out of the Melendez family is nothing less than your just desserts!”
Georgina’s brother smirked, a sense of triumph radiating from him. “Before, we couldn’t do anything about you. But now? Things are different.”
Olivia leaned closer to Arabella, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper, “Dr. Palmer, the one who’s come to take you down has finally arrived.”
