Chapter 403
The pain shot through Jayceon, making his legs go rigid. He almost passed out on the spot.
“For God’s sake, are you mourning at a grave?”
Samuel forcibly pulled Kimberly off Jayceon, quickly yanked away the white sheet, and helped Jayceon sit up in bed.
It took a while for Kimberly to stop her tears. When she opened her eyes and saw Jayceon was fine, she was a bit dazed. “Bro, you’re not dead?”
Jayceon clutched his stomach, his face dark. “Go get your brain checked.”
Kimberly pouted. “Sam, my brother called me an idiot.”
Samuel glanced at Jayceon. “Kim was just worried about you. Why are you yelling at her?”
Jayceon: “Look who’s talking.”
Kimberly: “…?”
Feeling guilty, Samuel coaxed and tricked Kimberly out of the room, telling her to go home to check for news and, while she was at it, bring back some Stomach-Soothing Congee for Jayceon.
After Kimberly left, Samuel closed the door to the room, pulled up a chair, and sat by Jayceon’s
bedside.
Samuel tried to persuade him, “Since you’ve decided to let go, try to look on the bright side. You’re carrying the entire Melendez’s group on your shoulders. Your life isn’t just your own.
Jayceon lay in bed, his eyes fixed on the cold ceiling.
Whatever he was thinking of, he closed his eyes, his expression pained.
Seeing Jayceon’s low spirits, Samuel stood up worriedly. “I’ll go get a doctor to check on you.”
After Samuel left, Jayceon slowly opened his eyes.
Jayceon sent out a message, and soon, Steve arrived at the room. “Mr. Melendez.”
Jayceon forced himself to sit up.

He instructed Steve, “Starting tomorrow, you don’t need to come to the company anymore.”
“Huh?”
Steve was completely dumbfounded
Could it be that he was being fired for running his mouth about his boss’s condition?
Jayceon said. “Pick two of the best bodyguards from the Melendez family. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be responsible for protecting my wife’s safety.”
Steve: “Mr. Melendez, I’m just a corporate wage slave. I’m afraid I’m not cut out for all that violent stuff.”
Jayceon scowled: “You just need to step in and deal with any trouble or crises around her when necessary. I’m not asking you to kill anyone.”
Never mind his grandfather and his father; Mr. Caldwell’s new wife, Georgina’s aunt Linda, was trouble enough.
And then there were the Collinses.
Arabella was bound to run into trouble.
It was all because of him. He had a responsibility to eliminate these potential threats around her and give her back a peaceful life.
Steve stood awkwardly by the hospital bed, wringing his hands: “Mr. Melendez, none of your wife’s friends are to be trifled with. If I get caught…?”
Jayceon: “Double salary and year-end bonus.”
Steve cleared his throat: “Rest assured, Mr. Melendez. I will guarantee your wife’s safety.”
Samuel walked into the room and asked them, “What are you two talking about?”
Steve replied politely: “Nothing much. I was just advising Mr. Melendez to stay in the hospital a few more days and recover properly before going back to the office.”
Samuel gave Steve a light punch: “Yeah, right.”
Head down, clutching his chest, Steve sheepishly left the room.
The next morning, just as a fully dressed Jayceon was about to be discharged, Conrad and Tabitha, having heard the news, rushed in and blocked his way.
