**Chapter 97**

The moment Kayla’s voice broke the tense air, the expressions of the Melendez family elders shifted dramatically.

Jayceon’s intense gaze was locked onto Arabella, searching for any sign of her reaction as a heavy silence enveloped the room.

Arabella, sitting beside her mother, kept her head bowed, her lips pressed tightly together, unwilling to utter a single word. If Tabitha had arrived here alone today, perhaps she might have entertained the notion that they were here to mend fences. However, with both Jayceon’s father and grandfather present, it was clear that trouble was brewing.

As expected, the first to speak was Conrad, Jayceon’s father, his tone dripping with hostility. “When the Palmer family faced bankruptcy all those years ago, if my son hadn’t intervened, you wouldn’t have been able to settle that debt even if you sold your own children,” he spat, his words laced with contempt.

Arabella felt a surge of indignation rise within her, compelling her to stand, but before she could fully rise, Kayla’s firm grip on her arm pulled her back down into her seat.

Conrad continued, his voice oozing with disdain. “A fallen heiress marrying into the Melendez family… I’d say you’re the lucky one here. You wouldn’t dare disagree with that, would you?”

Roderick, unable to contain his rage, leapt to his feet. “It’s true that Arabella was marrying up when she joined your family, but the Palmer family never begged for your acceptance of our daughter!” His voice was a mixture of anger and defiance, echoing in the tense atmosphere.

Conrad merely scoffed, “Well, since you understand the dynamics of marrying up, you should be grateful for what you’ve received!”

Kayla, her voice sharp and unwavering, shot back without hesitation, “Even if the Melendez family holds the title of the most prominent family in Zelmere, we refuse to allow our daughter to endure this kind of humiliation any longer. This divorce is happening!”

Conrad’s expression morphed into one of fury, his eyes flaring with anger. “If it’s you who desires the divorce, then she will leave this marriage with nothing!”

Arabella, feeling the weight of the moment, lifted her gaze, and to her surprise, her eyes locked with Jayceon’s deep, unwavering stare. Their history rushed back to her: twenty years as childhood sweethearts, three years of marriage, and here he sat, cold and detached, allowing his family to belittle her and her parents without intervening.

A bitter smile flickered across her lips, but it was tinged with sorrow. The pain was nearly suffocating. She slowly rose, summoning her courage to confront the Melendez family elders.

“Conrad,” she began, her voice steady despite the turmoil within, “your son has meticulously calculated how much the Palmer family has borrowed from the Melendez family over the years. We have 150 million dollars ready to return. As long as your son agrees to sign the divorce papers, we will pay it back immediately.”

Jayceon remained seated, his silence deafening. He didn’t flinch or offer a word of support; he simply continued to gaze at Arabella, the tension thickening in the room.

The atmosphere was charged, electric with unspoken words and unresolved conflict. After a few agonizing seconds of silence, Sir turned his attention to Oliver.
