My Best Friend’s Father Wants me novel Chapter 11

Enora:

“I strongly disagree with your alignment with Ecocycle. You know that they are Retroscorp’s biggest competitor. You make an agreement with them and then decide that you want to do business with us? Is this some kind of joke?”

The meeting was getting heated and I was beginning to worry if I should continue to take minutes. This was becoming less and less of a meeting and more like a brawl.

Mr. Wright hadn’t said a word and was simply sitting quietly while the clients for Retroscorp blew their tops off. My typing got a bit slower. Was I supposed to document that the clients were yelling at the CEO? I had written minutes before but none of them ever involved people yelling at each other, or rather, one yelling at the other.

“...If you desire to do business with us, you have to reverse whatever policies you have made with Ecocycle. It is either us or them and I believe that an esteemed businessman, such as yourself, should be able to make the right decision. I assume that you were shown their accounting records for the last fiscal year. -”

The speaker, Mr. Andrew, pressed his finger angrily on the table.

“-A half-a-million-dollar loss on investments. My company has not made a loss of more than a hundred thousand dollars since its inception and we will not allow our company to align with a company that aligns with Ecocycle.”

Mr. Wright finally moved. I caught my breath and readied my fingers to type his response. For almost two pages, everything that was written was said by Mr. Andrew.

“Well, if that is your stand, then I guess that this meeting is over. Thank you so much for your time.”

He stretched his hand across the table to shake a bewildered Mr. Andrew. Even I was caught off guard.

“E…Excuse me,” Mr. Andrew stuttered. “What are you talking about?”

Mr. Wright withdrew his hand and smiled calmly.

“It seems that Retroscorp has already made their stand and their stand is to not align with a business that aligns with Ecocycle. I believe that wraps up our meeting and we can all go home. Thank you once again, for your time.”

He stretched his hand over again but Mr. Andrew refused to take it. His face paled and I watched in shock. Was I supposed to document this as well?

“Mr. Wright, I…”

“Mr. Andrew, you gave me the choice between your company and Ecocycle. I established meetings with both of you because you both have different strengths that will benefit my company, and I will, in turn, benefit yours. Ecocycle is big on investments. Their loss last year was a miscalculation on their entry time into the market. My company knows when to enter and leave a market and what markets to enter. Aligning with Ecocycle gives us insight into potential projects to invest in, and we can aid them in timing market entry. Your company, on the other hand, is more attuned to stock-market trading as well as alignment with leading insurance companies. That is how you are able to cover your losses so well and bring it down to less than a hundred thousand dollars each fiscal year.”

Mr. Wright stood up and gestured at me to pack up my laptop. The meeting was over? Already?

“As Retroscorp has already made their stand, I don’t see why this meeting should be longer than it has to be. So, on that note…”

Mr. Wright offered his hand to Mr. Andrew for the third time.

“... Thank you for your time.”

Mr. Andrew sat there dumbfounded. He was silent and so was the entire Retroscorp team. I watched as they whispered amongst themselves while Mr. Wright still held out his hand. Finally, they turned to him.

“Uhmm…Mr. Wright, please sit down. We… we are willing to make some…some exceptions.”

Mr. Wright gave a nod and I knew that was my cue to sit down and fire up the laptop again.

“I would be open to discussions then…”

~~~
I was in the meeting room alone, tidying up the minutes of the last meeting. The tension at the start of the meeting threw me off my accuracy, and I had more editing to do than I usually would.
I thought about the cunning that Mr. Wright used in the meeting and my admiration for him sky-rocketed. Even in his silence and with Mr. Andrew yelling, he commanded so much respect. I licked my lips and took a deep breath. If I kept this up, I would be drooling all over my laptop for this man.
I threw my head back and closed my eyes. Images of his hot body, moving over mine, his groans and whispers in my ears. Fuck!
I pressed my thighs together, took a deep breath, and opened my eyes. I was getting wetter. Fuck! The thing that this man did to me even when he was not here.
