My Best Friend’s Father Wants me novel Chapter 19

Enora:

I looked at Mr. Wright in shock but the surprise on my face was nothing compared to Mr. Romeo.

He looked pale, and the shimmer in his emerald green eyes was replaced by one of horror and regret. He looked like he had just gotten the wind knocked out of him by a punch to the solar plexus.

“Mr. Romeo, I have to say that I admire the audacity of your flirting with my employee in the middle of a crucial business meeting. I think that at this point, we can both agree that this meeting is unnecessary, and we can also give Miss Lopez a break from lying for you.”

His Italian was almost perfect. He had a few tone issues here but it was otherwise flawless.

I shrunk back into my seat and from the corner of my eye, watched Mr. Romeo get up and leave. He was trying so desperately to hide his shame and almost left the room without his phone.

We were finally alone. God! I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.

I could feel Mr. Wright’s eyes all over me but I didn’t dare to look at them. I had walked on thin ice so many times and I was certain that this time, it was going to crack through, beneath my feet.

“Miss Lopez, I would like you to look at me.”

He was calling me Miss Lopez again. I was in deep trouble.

Our gazes met and my shame overwhelmed me, turning me the brightest shade of scarlet all the way up to my ears.

“I… I am … sorry, Mr. Wright. I… I didn’t mean to…”

“Why didn’t you tell me the moment you noticed that he was making advances at you?”

I had never thought I would so desperately want to be one with an inanimate object. I wanted to merge with the chair to get away from his piercing gaze.

“I… I wasn’t sure how to go about it. He… he…”

“He can’t do anything to you. In case you have forgotten, I am your boss and you work for me and not him.”

His voice sounded angry. His eyes narrowed down on me and I felt the atmosphere around me had become significantly heavier.

I turned away from him and fixed my gaze on the laptop in front of me. I had screwed up so badly. The next thing was my letter of termination. I closed my eyes tight and waited for him to say something about it.

“Enora…”

I opened my eyes and jolted a little as I found him standing next to me. I was captured by his gaze again.

His fingers traced the outline of my chin and his thumb stroked my cheek. I could feel my skin heat up under his touch.

“... It was painful to watch and listen to him speak so lewdly of your body. Only I can do that.”

I gulped. His voice. Why did everything about him always leave me so breathless?

“Delete the minute that you took. It was a failed meeting. It wouldn’t be any good to submit a minute that was full of lies,” He said with a raised eyebrow and I flushed again.

“Yes, Sir.”

“Good girl.”

His thumb danced across my lower lip. The smell of the perfume he had sprayed on his wrist was intoxicating and made me feel heady.
