Enora:
I sat in the living room and my heart skipped a beat. The elevator made a pinging noise and I heard footsteps approaching the door. I took a deep breath and smoothed my skirt. It was time. Soon, I would see Mr. Wright, and he would give my clumsy self my flight ticket out of here, and I could go and tell Bridget what a failure I was.
I heard a keycard swipe and the door opened. I was met with the familiar imposing gaze of Mr. Wright and I stood up from the sofa immediately. His aura filled the room and I could feel his eyes baring down on me in tons. My body was quaking and I struggled to get the words to string correctly.
“Enora…”
“I apologize for my behaviour, Mr. Wright. This is my first job and… and I didn’t mean to be such a clumsy fool. I broke the company laptop I was given and I know that it costs a lot of money. I am ready to foot the cost of it and be sent home. I am very sorry I let you…”
“Enora, look at me.”
I raised my head and his brown eyes locked on to me. I gasped and felt something get stuck in my throat. His face was calm and cool and I realized that he was calling me Enora again and not Miss Lopez.
“I am not firing you. I understand that people make mistakes, maybe you, more than others, but I understand that it was a mistake and it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t sneak up on you while you were busy filling my calendar.”
I gulped. Was he saying that all this was his fault? I had a feeling that I would break something sooner or later with the way I was going.
“Put your suitcase inside, Enora. I’ll be waiting here.”
“I…I… Thank you… Sir.”
I flushed the hottest shade of pink and dragged my suitcase back into my room. I may not have been fired but I just embarrassed myself in front of him again. I shouldn’t have been so quick to jump to the conclusion that he was going to fire me. What was so wrong with me?
I hauled my suitcase back into the wardrobe and went back to the living room to see Mr. Wright was still standing where I had left him. I stood frozen in a spot, silence hanging between us and I was unsure of what to do. Should I offer to make him tea? A do-over for last time.
My fingers flexed involuntarily as I remembered the feel of his hard-on through his trousers on my fingers and his deep groan.
Fuck! Get a grip! I just escaped being laid off. This should definitely be the last thing that I should be thinking about.
“Here…”
Mr, Wright reached into the bag her was holding and took out a box. He handed it to me and my hands shook as I collected it from him.
“...Put that on and look nice. We are going to dinner.”
“Dinner?”
He smirked a little as he looked bemusement.
“Yes, Enora. Dinner. I believe it is worth celebrating the fact that we won Mr. Gonman and Ms. Patel over.”
My brain was still processing all this. Dinner? After I broke his thousand-dollar laptop?
“We? I… I didn’t do anything. You did all the talking and I simply sat there.”
He took a step towards me and stretched out his finger to brush my cheek but stopped and put his hand down. His brown eyes were filled with a deep longing, and it set my heart ablaze for this man. I couldn’t believe that he was looking at me like that.
“You did plenty. And I have a feeling that Mr. Gonman has a thing for you,” He said with a light smile. “It is safe to say that your captivating looks played a huge role in his sudden change of mind. It takes a certain type of catalyst to change businessmen like him who are so deeply rooted in the classical business practices.”
I was stunned. I had done nothing but mess up since the day I got here, and this man was saying that I helped him win over a major client. Well, when someone had as much money as him, I guess one's perspective of looking at things is always very…unconventional.
