The slap was so hard that Adrien saw stars before his eyes, his whole body crashing into the wall.

Hearing the anger and choking sobs in his mother’s voice, he froze completely, not daring to lift his head to look at her again.

At this moment, silence was tantamount to acquiescence.

Davina knew that everything about Sylvia’s suicide was shrouded in strangeness.

But she never imagined that the instigator behind it all would be her own son.

She stared blankly at Adrien, who offered not a single word of explanation. The anger in her eyes gradually faded, re- placed by endless disappointment and disbelief.

Her whole body began to tremble, her voice sharp beyond measure.

“How could you–how could you do something so foolish? That was Syl! Have you forgotten she saved your life? Have you forgotten how, back then, you would rather be punished than be separated from her? Didn’t you promise me you would take care of her for the rest of your life? After what you’ve done, how will I ever face the Rhodes family after I’m gone!”

This heartbroken reproach from his own family was more than Adrien could bear.

He felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body, and he slid down the wall to the floor.

If, on the day he learned of Sylvia’s death, his soul had died with her-

Then today, when his darkest secrets were exposed, it meant he had begun to rot.

And the death of his body had happened much earlier.

On the day he first accepted Kiersten’s invitation.

The body he had hidden beneath fine clothes, covered in the marks of decay, was finally exposed to the sunlight.

And all of this was the retribution he deserved.

The Farrell family and the Rhodes family had been neighbors for eighteen years.

First, because she truly liked Sylvia.

Second, because she believed that if her son said he would do something, he would keep his word.

But after the car accident, Adrien matured overnight and began to learn to take responsibility.

At that time, she was heartbroken, but also comforted.

After they got married, and after Jason and Sylvia’s mother, Loretta Rhodes, passed away, Sylvia visibly fell into de- spair.

Adrien took care of her while also supporting their crumbling family.

She thought he had grown enough to stand on his own.

But she never expected that, in some unnoticed corner, the son she had raised with her own hands would do some- thing like this.

Davina felt her mind buzzing, unable to say another word.
