Chapter 7
After leaving the hospital, Adrien called Sylvia several times, but she didn’t answer any of his calls, and a sudden sense of panic crept over him.
He hurriedly took a taxi to the airport and bought the next available ticket to Switzerland.
While waiting for his flight, he sent her numerous messages, but still received no reply.
As time passed, his heart beat faster and faster, and he couldn’t stop his mind from running wild.
He recalled the events that had happened before he left Switzerland, vaguely sensing that something was off.
But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong; all that remained in his mind was the calm, unfathomable look Sylvia had given him before he left.
By the time he landed in Switzerland again, it was already the 26th.
He rushed straight to the hotel, and as soon as he opened the door, he found the room completely empty, not a soul in sight.
He searched every corner of the room, even turning the wardrobe upside down, but still found no trace of her.
Sylvia had vanished without a trace.
Adrien felt a thunderous roar in his ears, his mind went blank, and it was as if all the blood in his body was flowing in
reverse.
In a panic, he pulled out his phone and called her again and again, but there was no sound at all.
Listening to the cold automated message, ‘The number you have dialed is powered off,‘ his reason gradually slipped away. He stumbled to the front desk, speaking incoherently.
“Excuse me, has the guest in room 607… have they checked out and left?”
The receptionist tapped a few keys on the computer and shook her head.
“No, the room hasn’t been checked out. The checkout time is noon tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Adrien was finally able to breathe a little easier.
He steadied himself on a nearby chair and slowly sat down, forcing himself to calm down, repeating reassuring thoughts to himself over and over.
“It’s fine, she probably just went out for a walk and hasn’t had time to check her messages. It’s fine.”
After repeating this sentence to himself a dozen times, a sudden thought struck him.

Chapter 7
Wasn’t the reason they came to Switzerland to see the first snow?
Adrien turned his head to look out the window, but all he saw was a clear blue sky.
There was no snow in Switzerland?

He took out his phone to check the recent weather in Switzerland, but when he opened it, the screen still showed the recent weather in New York.
“Minus 10 degrees Celsius, light snow.”
Seeing these words, Adrien’s lost sense of reason finally began to return.
Could it be that Sylvia saw the weather and went back home first, without having time to tell him?
Or was she angry at him for leaving her behind and going home, so she disappeared on purpose to scare him?
These two thoughts kept circling in Adrien’s mind, making him increasingly uncertain and tying his heart into a knot.
He stared at the chat window that still showed no reply, growing more and more agitated.
Time ticked by, and night soon fell.
Adrien sat in the lobby for six hours, but still didn’t see any sign of Sylvia.
When his last bit of patience was exhausted, he got up and went to the front desk to request the surveillance footage.
The surveillance video showed that at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, Sylvia had left the hotel alone, pushing her suitcase.
He checked the time and realized that Sylvia had already been missing for thirty–two hours.
The thought that she must have gone home grew stronger and stronger in Adrien’s mind.
He quickly booked the next available flight home.
Before boarding, he called his mother, who lived in the suburbs of New York.
“Mom, are you free right now? Could you check if Syl is at home? I can’t reach her on the phone.”
