My fated alpha by Natalie novel Chapter 15

Hayden

Ben blinked his eyes and looked at me as if he didn’t know where he was or what he was doing. His eyes were glued to Madeleine so I cleared my throat.

“You were saying something?”

Upon hearing my voice, he shook his head, and Ben turned his attention to me.

“Yes, the rogues are from far south. It seems like a battle broke out in the south and some packs fought bitterly. I don’t have the complete details but there is a new group of rogues roaming around…”

I heard the report carefully and immediately asked him to tighten the security around our territory.

I also asked him to take some of the trained recruits with him, who he knew wouldn’t die or get injured if there were to be an attack.

Then I turned my attention to Madeleine and said, “Come, let’s put some food into your empty stomach.”

She smiled at Ben who couldn’t take his eyes off her. I only looked at him with squinted eyes before he abruptly turned around and left without another word.

Luke sniggered, “Possessive already?”

I snapped at him, “Shut up, Luke.”

He fell silent and I guided her to my home. My heart was fluttering at the thought of walking her home.

I had never taken a girl to my home…except one. It had been a long time ago and I don’t know why Madeleine reminded me of her.

Trying to calm myself that I was just taking her inside my home to have her eat something felt reassuring.

I knocked on the door again and Raine opened it. But before she could scold me for disturbing her again, her eyes fell on Madeleine.

As expected, I could see a thousand questions forming in her head already.

Before she could jump to any conclusion, I answered her, “Raine, this is Madeleine. She was…apparently lost and stumbled across the river where Charlie found her.”

Madeleine only raised her eyes to look at me but refrained from commenting. Raine’s eyes flitted from me to Madeleine and she saw the dress she was wearing.

“So, you needed that for her…”

I looked around not pretending to know what she meant and Raine turned her attention to Madeleine.

“Come, come inside, we can talk inside.”

Madeleine smiled at her and we both went in. I saw my beta and gamma watching from afar giving each other a knowing look but I only rolled my eyes at them as we went in.

Raine immediately asked Madeleine to sit down and true to her usual nature offered her a truckload of food that she could eat for months.

Madeleine only looked at me helplessly and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Raine, that food will last me for three days, you know.”

My sister rolled her eyes at me and Madeleine tried to suppress her smile. For the next hour, the two girls started to talk and conveniently forgot that I was even around.

I tried to join in their conversation once or twice, but the two were engrossed in talking to each other. So I had no other choice but to giveup and do something else.

Shaking my head, I decided to walk out of the house and let them do the talking.

I recalled Ben rushing up to me to inform me about some rogues so I thought I might as well see if he had found any more information.

Predictably, the two were sitting below the shadow large tree, gossiping with each other like school girls.

Upon seeing me approach, both of them got up from their seats and stopped abruptly.

Crossing my hands over my chest, I asked them, “What is it?”

Ben and Charlie looked at each other, each pushing the other one to ask something.

Raising an eyebrow, I said in a stern voice, “Spit it out, I don’t have all day.”

Charlie, who was poking Ben in the back, suddenly blurted, “Ben was saying that he found the girl to be pretty.”

“Is it so?”

I asked, not trying to give away anything. Ben looked anywhere but me and tried to defend himself, “What is wrong with that? She is pretty.”

Her face immediately grew sad which all of us noticed. Trying to ease the tension, I added, “She will join our pack soon.”

I had said that plainly and without another thought and all of them had turned to see me with wide eyes.

‘Shit’ I muttered. I had spoken that out loud and I had not even discussed it with her first.

Hastily I added, trying to salvage the situation, “...that is if she wants to.”

Madeleine gave me a smile and even Raine beamed at me. But none of their smiles seemed to be as radiant as Ben who looked like he had found paradise.

Waving my hand in front of him, I spoke to him, “Earth to Ben, are you still here or did you leave us for some heavenly treasures.”

All of us had a good laugh and Ben scratched the back of his head while looking at her.

Hesitantly, he asked, “Miss Madeleine, do you recall the direction to your pack? If not, I will be more than happy to drop you.”

But before she could respond, I blurted, “No”

Luke grinned at me and I swore under my breath. What was happening to me? Was I getting jealous of my gamma over a girl I barely knew?

Ben’s face grew small at the sudden and harsh way I had spoken, but I tried to reassure him and correct myself.

“I need you on patrol duty for tonight as well, Ben. You can take Charlie with you.”

Charlie’s face was appalled as he tried to argue, “Why me?”

I answered, “You can keep him from falling asleep as the rogues infiltrate our territory.”

They knew I was joking so they didn’t take it to heart.

Raine who had been smiling and watching everything asked the most important question.

“But then who will drop her if not the beta or gamma, Hayden? You cannot let our guest out of our territory on her own when you know there are rogues roaming around.”

I looked at Madeleine and answered in a confident voice, “I will”
