My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1222

Dennis shuffled into the corner, wiping away tears. “Dad, can I have a cushion? The floor hurts.”

Andrew didn’t even look at him. “Get it yourself.”

Still sniffling, Dennis trudged over to the sofa, grabbed a thin pillow, and went back to kneel in the corner. He kept his head down, hugging the cushion like it was the only friend he had left.

Andrew finally turned to Kevin. “Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine,” Kevin answered, giving Andrew a look. “Don’t you have anything else to ask me?”

Andrew’s face stayed calm, almost cold. “That’s your business. You know what you’re doing.”

Kevin gave a short, dry chuckle. “This is about Isabella Austin. You’re really keeping your cool.”

Andrew didn’t reply.

Kevin pressed on. “You were married to her for five years. Don’t you want to help her out? I remember she saved your life once.” His old, sharp eyes searched Andrew’s face for any sign of emotion.

Andrew took a slow sip of water. “I’m just wondering, why did you suddenly decide to help her?”

Kevin didn’t beat around the bush. “She gave birth to Dennis. He’s a Lane, no matter what.”

The mention of Dennis made something flicker across Andrew’s eyes, but he kept quiet.

Dennis, still sniffling, looked over his shoulder at the sound of his name.

Andrew turned back to Kevin. “Are you sure you can pull this off?”

Kevin studied him, realizing Andrew still hadn’t answered his earlier question. “I don’t know, I haven’t looked into it yet.”

“Do you even want to help?” Kevin tried again.

Andrew shrugged off the question. “If this goes wrong, Dennis is just going to throw another fit.”

“So, are you helping me or not?” Kevin asked.

Andrew’s voice was flat. “This isn’t my problem.”

Kevin’s brow furrowed. “Did she do something to hurt you?”
