My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 168

When Arianna George called Emily Blair’s name for the second time, Emily finally stopped in her tracks.

She turned around, her expression composed as she faced Arianna. “Ms. George, I understand you lashed out at me because you didn’t know the full story. But I wasn’t in the wrong, and I don’t deserve to be treated like this.”

Arianna’s words tumbled out, anxious and quick. “I know. That’s why I want to make it up to you.”

She hesitated for a moment before continuing, “I do have a slot for the Starlight Piano Competition. There’s only one, but I’d like to offer it to you as an apology.”

Arianna’s uncertainty showed as she added, “I’m not sure… if you want it?”

Every eye in the room landed on Emily, waiting for her answer.

Isabella Austin managed a gentle smile, but inside, her teeth were grinding. How could Arianna just hand over the only entry? What right did Emily have to compete in the same contest as her? Who did she think she was?

First, Emily dared to compete with her for Andrew Lane. Now, she wanted to take this competition too?

Suddenly, Isabella straightened up, her smile practiced and bright. “Emily, you should really think this through. You’re a senior in high school — your studies should come first.”

“As for whatever happened between you and Ms. George, I’m sure I can help clear up the misunderstanding. No need for things to get out of hand.”

Her words were honeyed on the surface, but the message was clear: she didn’t want Emily to accept.

Emily paused, wondering what the heroine of a romance drama would do in this situation. She replayed a few scenes in her mind: whenever the lead was offered an apology gift after being wronged, she always tossed her head and said something like, “I don’t need it,” before walking away, leaving everyone stunned.

Bold, unapologetic, unforgettable.

But Emily simply lifted her chin and smiled. “I’ll take it.”

Why refuse a good thing when it’s offered? She deserved this much.

Besides, this competition spot was something she’d wanted more than anything. Giving it up would be unthinkable.

Relief washed over Arianna’s face. “Let’s exchange numbers. I’ll send you the registration info — fill it out and you’re in.”

Emily nodded, exchanged contact details, and waved. “See you.”

Just as she was about to leave, someone grabbed her hand.

It was Andrew Lane.

His dark eyes locked on hers, sharp and unyielding. “Take me off your blocked list.”

Emily turned, giving him an innocent look as she pouted. “What are you talking about? I have no idea what you mean.”

With a sly twist, she slipped her hand free and shot him a mocking smile.
