My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 259

Larry narrowed his eyes, his jaw tightening.

Emily deliberately needled him, her tone edged with mockery. “You do realize that, by the rules, someone who gets knocked out in the first round doesn’t get to come back. So how’d you manage it?”

“And I can’t figure out how a loser like you got in here in the first place.”

She made a point of emphasizing the word “loser,” matching it with a scornful glance.

Predictably, Larry lost it.

He thrashed violently against the three security guards pinning him down, cursing nonstop. Fury blazed in his eyes, as if he wanted to tear Emily apart right then and there.

The guards—three grown men—were barely able to hold him. Sweat dripped down their foreheads. One shot Emily a warning glare. “Ms. Blair, please, don’t provoke him any further.”

Emily just smiled and offered a quiet apology.

Larry kept up his tirade for a while, but Emily didn’t hear anything close to the answer she was looking for. Disappointment flickered across her face.

She muttered, half to herself, “Forget it. Someone like you probably just snuck in through the back. Not like anyone here would actually vouch for you.”

Her voice was low but pitched just loud enough for Larry to catch every word.

He spat in her direction, grinning savagely. “Emily Blair, you think I’m like you? I’ve got plenty of friends, and just as many people who can’t stand you. Of course someone helped me. No one’s ever going to help you.”

A glint flashed in Emily’s eyes. She spoke as if idly, “Oh, so you’ve got help? Sure you’re not just pretending?”

Larry’s stare was icy and intent. After a beat, he gave a coarse chuckle.

Instead, she said, “It’s fine. If you don’t want to talk now, you can save it for the police.”

Larry’s expression shifted. “You called the cops?”

Emily nodded. “That’s right. You disrupted a public event—you’ll be lucky if you only get held for three days. If you have something to say, you can tell it to them.”

Larry’s face darkened, his gaze fixed on her. But after a few seconds, he forced a laugh.

“Emily Blair, you can’t scare me. It won’t work. I’m not telling anyone a thing. This isn’t some huge crime—they’ll keep me for a day, tops. The cops won’t bother to dig into who helped me. You’re wasting your time.”

“Call the police all you want. It won’t change a thing.”

Stubborn as ever, Larry refused to budge. Emily realized it was time to pull out her strongest card—the one thing that could really get to him.
