She remembered the college entrance exam questions—there was no way her results would be bad.
The thought lit up Emily Blair’s eyes.
Of course! How could she almost forget she still remembered the exam questions from last year?
If that was the case, maybe Elizabeth Wilson’s college entrance exam wasn’t a lost cause after all.
After chatting for a while, the door opened and Emma George walked in, looking utterly exhausted. Sweat glistened on her forehead, and her hair was a tangled mess.
Emily stared at her in surprise. “Mom, where have you been?”
Emma George dusted herself off before coming all the way into the hospital room. She took a long drink of water and finally replied, “I went out to get you some free-range chickens, caught more than a dozen—enough to last you half a month. And don’t worry, I picked up a big stash of ribs from the market, too. I’ll make you hearty chicken soup and rib broth every day to help you get your strength back. You’ll recover faster.”
Emily handed her a tissue to wipe away the sweat. “Mom, that’s way too much. There’s no way I can eat all that by myself. Besides, the housekeeper here takes good care of me already. You really don’t have to go through all this trouble.”
Emma shot her a look. “Nothing beats a mother’s cooking. No one else makes it as tasty as I do. You have to drink my soup, and I don’t care if you think it’s too much—you need the nourishment. You broke a bone, after all; now’s the time to rebuild your strength.”
Elizabeth quickly chimed in, “Really, it’s fine! I’m still here, too. I’ll help her finish all that soup—promise.”
Emma’s face lit up as she turned to her. “You must be Elizabeth Wilson! Emily has told me so much about you. Thank you for looking after her at school. I’ve been meaning to thank you in person.”
Elizabeth waved her hand, smiling. “No need to thank me. Just save me a drumstick when you make the chicken soup—that’s all I ask.”
Scrolling through her social media feed, she noticed the top trending topic was still the Starlight Piano Competition, now marked with a blazing “Hot” icon.
Emily’s brows knit together as she tapped on the tag.
The first post she saw was from Isabella Austin’s account.
[Sincerely sorry to all my fans and everyone online who’s been worried because of my personal issues. I know what I did was wrong, and all day I’ve been feeling nothing but guilt and helplessness. Once again, I want to apologize. I’m willing to accept all your criticism, and I’m prepared to return the trophy to the Starlight Piano Competition and to the other contestants.
Thank you all for your care and support. But at the same time, I hope everyone can help keep our online community positive. Please don’t attack the other contestants because of my mistakes—if you need to vent, direct it at me. I’ll take full responsibility.
Lastly, to my fans—I’m truly sorry. Lately, I haven’t been doing well. I’ve been struggling with insomnia and depression, sometimes even hurting myself, and bursting into tears for no reason, even when nothing’s wrong. I’ve seen a therapist, and they’ve recommended I take a break to recover. So for the time being, I’ll be cutting back on my schedule. Please wait for me.]
