She had originally wanted Emily Blair to compromise a little—for the sake of her education and her academic record—and apologize to Isabella Austin as the school demanded.
But now, it was clear there was no need. The school didn’t see Emily Blair as a person at all.
“You—”
She had just opened her mouth when someone interrupted.
“Ms. Carter.”
It was Emily Blair’s calm, steady voice—cool and composed, like a gentle stream that washed over the raw edges of Ms. Carter’s anger. Just hearing her seemed to quietly press down the fire burning in her chest.
Ms. Carter drew a deep breath, struggling to regain her composure. “Emily, let’s go.”
But as soon as she took a step, the Dean of Students blocked their way, glaring at them. “Who said you could leave?”
Ms. Carter’s temper threatened to flare again, but Emily Blair stepped forward before she could react. She gently took Ms. Carter by the wrist, pulling her behind her, and smoothly took the official statement from Ms. Carter’s hand.
Emily glanced back, her voice low and reassuring. “Ms. Carter, let me handle this. Please, trust me.”
[Statement: I am Emily Blair, the student involved in the recent Starlight Piano Competition incident. First, I would like to offer my sincere apologies to Ms. Austin and to the public. I admit that my reckless actions and lack of judgment led me to slander Ms. Austin at the Starlight Piano Competition finals. Because of my foolishness, Ms. Austin has suffered undeserved criticism and insults. I deeply regret and apologize for this.
After days of reflection, I wish to formally apologize to Ms. Austin once again. I’m truly sorry. I acknowledge that regarding the accusations of plagiarism surrounding “Desire” and “Love,” Ms. Austin’s actions do not constitute traditional plagiarism. She was merely trying to honor Ms. Martin and the piece “Desire” in the best way she could. Ms. Austin’s intentions were pure, and therefore, her actions cannot be considered plagiarism. Here, I express my profound apologies to Isabella Austin once more.
The entire incident was the result of my own foolishness and, frankly, my past jealousy of Isabella Austin’s achievements. I allowed envy to cloud my judgment, which led me to slander and insult Ms. Austin. She is a person of integrity, kindness, and generosity. The fault was entirely mine—I never should have maligned her. I am deeply sorry.
I admit that in every respect, I fall short of Ms. Austin. From today on, I will live with endless regret and remorse. I am ashamed to face Ms. Austin and the public.]
