My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 398

Andrew Lane’s voice was deep and smooth. “I understand.”

Kevin Lane nodded. “Alright then, I’ll be in the study practicing my calligraphy. You should get going to the office—there’s a mountain of work waiting for you.”

Andrew didn’t linger any longer. He rose and left.

Kevin watched Andrew’s tall, well-built figure with growing satisfaction.

The butler stood quietly behind him. Kevin grinned. “Isabella’s family is coming to visit. Should I be picking out something new to wear?”

The butler replied softly, “Your new suit is already prepared, sir.”

Kevin nodded, then frowned a little. “By the way, where are Andrew’s parents? I haven’t seen them for days.”

The butler hesitated. “Mr. Lane ran into some trouble with a woman abroad. Mrs. Lane went to handle it, and won’t be back for a while.”

Kevin’s frown deepened. “What kind of trouble?”

Can’t even manage a woman properly?

The butler lowered his head even further. “The woman is three months pregnant, sir. She refuses to terminate the pregnancy.”

Kevin’s eyes turned somber and unreadable.

After a moment, he spoke in a low voice, “If she won’t, then let her have the baby. The Lane Family can afford to take care of one more child.”

The butler silently mulled over the meaning of his words, not daring to say more.

After arriving in the capital, Emily Blair checked into a hotel first while she looked for an apartment to rent. Her bank account was in good shape, so she wasn’t worried about how long she’d need to stay.

Once she’d settled in, Emily took Elizabeth Wilson’s grandmother to see a specialist and got her admitted to the hospital. She even transferred some money into the old lady’s account to cover extra medical costs.

“Don’t even start with the thank-yous,” Emily stopped Elizabeth just as she was about to speak. “If you really want to thank me, study hard and get a decent score on your college entrance exams.”

Unbelievable. She must be crazy.

Even in the old days, no one would dare boast like that.

Maxwell waved her off, already impatient. “Just go. Don’t waste my time.”

He muttered, “No idea how security even let you in here.”

“I gave them a couple packs of cigarettes,” Emily replied cheerfully, refusing to budge even as Maxwell tried to shoo her out. She just stood there, smiling at him.

Maxwell’s tone grew steely. “I don’t care who you are. Take your nonsense somewhere else. What you’re asking is impossible.”

Taking in a student expelled from another school right before exams, and one who claims she’s going to be the top scorer?

He’d have to be out of his mind to agree to that.
