My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 418

Emily Blair slammed her hand against the wall, a muffled groan escaping her lips at the sting.

She scowled, her frustration bubbling over. “How am I supposed to get you to the hospital without touching you? Can you even stand on your own?”

The man fell silent, lifting his head from her shoulder and staggering back a step, unsteady.

“I don’t need your help,” he rasped.

He pressed a hand to his temples, his voice rough and low. “Just call a cab. Hurry up.”

Emily finally managed to wriggle free from his grip, rubbing her sore elbow with a scowl. In the dim light, she shot him a glare.

Rude bastard.

He waited a few seconds when she didn’t answer, then barked, “Hurry up.”

Emily glared at him, pulling her phone from her pocket and ordering a ride. All the while, she stewed.

He’s suffering, isn’t he? Honestly, I hope it gets worse. This is how you ask for help? By dragging someone along?

No manners at all.

Cabs in the city were expensive as hell. Emily could afford the fare, but she sure as hell didn’t want to waste her money on some ill-mannered jerk. She snapped, “You better pay me back for the cab.”

To her surprise, the man actually found time to snark back, letting out a low scoff. “Cheapskate.”

Emily’s expression didn’t change. “And the hospital bill, too. Don’t even think about skipping out.”

He exhaled sharply, voice tight with strain. “Enough talking.”

She brushed past him, tossing a final warning over her shoulder. “Let’s go. And try not to fall—I’m not picking you up if you do.”

He snorted. “Don’t flatter yourself. I don’t need you worrying about me.”

Emily strode beneath the streetlamp, the man trailing just behind her.

Abruptly, she spun around, using the weak glow to study his face. She’d had a nagging suspicion during their earlier scuffle—she’d definitely seen him before.
