My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 444

Emily Blair’s eyes widened slowly, a wave of mortification crawling up from her toes, prickling along her spine, and pooling at her scalp. Goosebumps broke out across her skin in an instant.

She was so embarrassed she wanted to sink through the floor, dig herself a tunnel, and disappear into some hidden castle beneath the earth.

Tristan Davis watched her with clear amusement, lowering his head and fixing those deep-set eyes on her, his whole expression radiating delight. “Emily Blair, do you really like me that much? Enough to lure me in here with dessert and try to have a heart-to-heart?”

Emily drew a shaky breath. With Tristan so close, she could feel the warmth rising in her cheeks.

She forced out a few words, her voice barely above a whisper. “...That’s not true. You misunderstood.”

Tristan couldn’t hold back a laugh, his grin full of mischief. “Emily Blair, are you blushing?”

Emily clenched her teeth. “Shut up. I told you, that’s not what happened.”

He leaned in, savoring her embarrassment. “No need to be shy. It’s not like I mind. And let’s be honest—I’ve known you had a crush on me for a while now.”

That was too much. Emily gave him a hard shove. “I said it’s a misunderstanding! I don’t— If you don’t believe me, then just get out. Go on, out!”

Tristan, unbothered, just smirked. “Come on, don’t get mad. I didn’t say anything bad.”

She shoved him again, more forcefully this time. “Just go already!”

When they reached the door, Tristan grabbed the frame, turning back to look at her. “Do you remember what I told you?”

Emily frowned, glancing away. “Nope. Now please, just leave!”

She looked up at Tristan’s door for a long moment, then closed her hand around the candy and headed back inside.

On the morning of the entrance exam, Emily checked and rechecked her bag—ID, admission ticket, pens—so many times it bordered on obsessive. Emma George finally urged her, “Come on, let’s go. You don’t want to be late.”

Emily clutched her pencil case tight and gave a small nod.

Emma only walked her down to the lobby; Emily insisted on going to the test center alone.

Outside, she took a few steps and looked up—only to see Tristan waiting beneath the old tree, dressed with his usual flair.

With one hand in his pocket, he waved at her. “Didn’t I promise I’d see you off? Let’s go.”
