My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 452

As soon as Amelia Lane heard this, she immediately understood, breaking into a delighted grin.

"You’re absolutely right. These days, most of the top students are just textbook machines. They know nothing except how to cram for exams. Emily Blair’s probably the same. Once she graduates, all she’ll be good for is some entry-level job. Now, us? We’re different."

Amelia laughed, radiant and smug. "Isn’t that true, Isabella?"

Isabella Austin nodded. "You’re right. Emily Blair has no real background. She can’t even begin to compare with you two. You’ll always have the Lane family behind you, but Emily Blair…"

A slight, almost pitying smile touched Isabella’s lips. "No matter how well she scores, Emily Blair is just the chauffeur’s daughter. She’ll never be in your league. The pocket money you get now is what she’ll be working for in the future."

After a few more words of reassurance, Amelia and Ethan Lane’s expressions were filled with pride and confidence—so different from how they’d looked when they arrived.

When the two siblings finally left, a satisfied smile spread across Isabella Austin’s face, growing wider and more genuine until she settled into bed, content at last.

She’d been obsessing over the wrong things, but now it was starting to make sense.

So what if Emily Blair was top of the class in the entrance exams?

No matter how talented she was, her future would be spent working for the wealthy. As long as Isabella carried the title Mrs. Lane, she’d always be a cut above Emily Blair.

No matter how harsh the insults online, those people could never reach her social standing. Their hard-earned monthly salaries couldn’t even buy her a single handbag—why should she care what they said?

Meanwhile, across town in the NTG CEO’s office—

For once, the television—usually reserved for PowerPoint slides and financial news—was tuned to a different channel. At this hour, the screen displayed a replay of the capital city’s evening news.

But she’d surprised him. She was thriving, maybe even dating someone new—someone who suited her.

Andrew closed his eyes, massaging the ache in his brow.

But Emily Blair had nothing to do with him anymore.

As for Emily, life had been good these past few days. Once the entrance exam results were released, she gave herself permission to relax. With her grandmother Elizabeth Wilson’s health improving, and on the doctor’s advice to get some fresh air, Emily took her, Emma George, her grandmother, and surprisingly, Tristan Davis, on a short trip to some nearby cities.

Honestly, Emily had no idea why Tristan decided to tag along. She’d expected him to disappear again, as unpredictable as always.

Tristan, scowling, muttered, "What, you don’t want me here or something?"
