When Emily Blair left her apartment that morning, she rang Tristan Davis’s doorbell, just as she always did.
It felt only natural. After all, Tristan had agreed to work at her company, Vertex International, for a month. As his boss, she considered it her duty to make sure her employee showed up on time.
She waited as the doorbell echoed through the apartment. No one answered for quite a while.
Emily glanced at her watch. 9:20 a.m.
Maybe Tristan had gotten in late last night and was still asleep. Company hours started at ten, and as an employee, Tristan was expected to be there on time.
She pressed the doorbell again.
This time, someone came to the door.
Emily raised her eyebrows in surprise when she saw the girl standing there. Wasn’t this the same girl from the parking lot last night?
A faint smile flickered in Emily’s eyes.
Well, well. Tristan moves fast, she thought. He’d already brought the girl home.
The smile deepened as Emily took in the girl’s outfit: an oversized set of pajamas, clearly Tristan’s. The sleeves and pant legs were rolled up several times, the shirt billowed loosely over her small frame, and the wide collar slipped down to reveal her delicate, pale collarbones. The girl was charming, with bright eyes and a sweet face—so different from last night’s breezy skirt, now bundled up in Tristan’s clothes.
Emily couldn’t help but wonder what kind of girl had captured Tristan’s interest. Still, work came first; there’d be time for questions later.
She cleared her throat. “Excuse me, is Tristan—?”
The girl’s cute face instantly fell. She glared, lips pressed together. “You again? What are you doing here? Is this how you always chase after Tristan?”
