My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 498

Emily Blair refused flat out.

That day was probably the first time Tristan Davis had ever crossed paths with Andrew Lane. Yet even at their very first meeting, Tristan practically lost his mind. His comments were biting, sarcastic, and no one could tell what exactly about Andrew Lane had set him off.

If Emily actually brought Tristan along, she half-suspected Tristan would blow the roof off the Lane family estate before the day was done.

Elizabeth Wilson frowned in confusion. “Why not bring Tristan? Isn’t he supposed to be working for you this month anyway? Just take him. If you need anything, have him help out.”

Emily let out a few exasperated clicks of her tongue. “You have no idea. Whenever Tristan sees Andrew Lane, he goes off the rails and starts spouting nonsense. I can never figure out what he’s trying to do.”

“What kind of nonsense?” Elizabeth’s eyes lit up, curiosity piqued.

Emily, half-distracted by her phone, muttered, “He keeps going on about how Andrew Lane and Isabella Austin’s anniversary is coming up soon, telling me to buy them gifts and all that, saying it in this weirdly snarky way. Honestly, it’s like he has some kind of grudge against Andrew.”

Elizabeth didn’t need any more clues; Tristan’s feelings were painfully obvious to her.

She barely stifled a laugh. “Of course he has a grudge.”

Emily finally looked up from her screen, surprised. “You know?”

Elizabeth grinned mischievously. “Don’t you?”

Emily was genuinely puzzled. “No, what grudge do they have?”

Elizabeth couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out laughing.

Emily frowned, thoroughly mystified. “What’s so funny? Why are you laughing?”

Elizabeth struggled to compose herself, then patted Emily’s shoulder. “Nothing. Just ask Tristan yourself. I wouldn’t dare spill it—he’d kill me if I did.”

Emily eyed her warily. “What are you two scheming this time?”

Elizabeth just smirked. “All I’m saying is, you should take Tristan with you.”

Emily considered for a moment. “Give me a few good reasons why I absolutely have to.”

A moment later, she felt a light touch on her wrist, fingers slowly tracing upward, sending goosebumps up her arm.

Emily jerked her hand away and glared at Tristan. “What are you doing?”

Tristan had leaned in so close she could see the laughter in his eyes. “I’m just happy you’re taking me with you.”

Emily gave him a cold look. “Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

But Tristan ignored the warning, humming, “Emily, you’re just too good to me.”

Emily closed her eyes. “Just shut up, please.”

Riven wasn’t all that far from the capital, and the flight seemed to pass in a blink.

As soon as Emily and Tristan stepped out of the airport terminal, a young man in a suit approached—handsome but serious-looking. It was Andrew Lane’s assistant.

“Ms. Blair, Mr. Lane’s car is waiting outside. If you’re ready, we can take you straight to the Lane estate.”
