On the video, Dennis Lane lounged on the living room sofa, scowling in disgust at his own feet. He impatiently directed the Lane family’s security team to pin down her daughter, while he himself pulled out a lighter from his pocket. With a cruel, almost childlike smile, he flicked it on and held the flame to the little girl’s arm.
Her daughter—just a few years old—was held fast by several burly men, utterly helpless. Her piercing screams echoed through the speakers, each shriek stabbing straight through Emily Blair’s chest, leaving her breathless with anguish.
Emily had stormed over to the Lane estate to demand answers. All she got for her trouble was to be dragged out by the Lane family’s bodyguards and tossed unceremoniously onto the curb.
Andrew Lane’s parting words still rang in her ears: “You brought this on yourself.”
And then there was Isabella Austin, striding away with her son in her arms, laughing as if she’d just heard the world’s best joke.
Memories washed over Emily in relentless waves, the pain undimmed by time—if anything, her hatred had only grown sharper, more consuming.
Her eyes grew colder and harder, hatred burning so clearly in her gaze that even Tristan Davis, standing nearby, couldn’t help but take notice.
“Emily? Emily Blair…” Tristan’s voice finally reached her.
She blinked back to the present, finding Dennis Lane watching her warily, pressing himself closer to Isabella Austin for protection.
A bitter smile tugged at Emily’s lips as she slowly lifted her gaze to meet Andrew Lane’s and Isabella Austin’s eyes.
Tristan leaned in a little, concern in his voice. “Emily, are you okay? I called your name three times and you didn’t answer.”
“I’m fine,” Emily replied quietly.
Isabella’s surprise was written all over her face. “Emily! What a coincidence. You’re here for dinner too?”
Emily’s smile was thin as she took in Isabella’s carefully maintained skin and figure. “Yeah. What are the odds?”
