My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 506

Emily Blair smiled softly. “And you? How have you been all these years? I heard Ms. George has joined the faculty at Aetheria Conservatory of Music. That’s impressive.”

Arianna George chuckled, shaking her head. “It’s just a job, nothing to write home about.”

Emily’s smile faded a little as she looked at her. “After the Starlight Piano Competition, I was always worried about you. I’m relieved your career wasn’t affected. If you’d really lost opportunities because of me… I honestly don’t know how I could ever face you.”

Arianna let out a small sigh, her tone warm with reassurance. “I told you back then, I’d handle it. But you wouldn’t listen, would you? You just charged ahead, stubborn as a mule—once you make up your mind, nothing can pull you back. Don’t worry about me, Emily. You nearly gave me a heart attack with your antics. Still, you managed to move on, and look where you are now. Things turned out all right for both of us. Let’s stop worrying over each other.”

There was so much Emily couldn’t put into words about the past. All she could do was offer a wry smile.

Suddenly, Tristan Davis grinned. “That’s right. Emily’s always been headstrong—once she sets her mind to something, there’s no talking her out of it.”

Emily shot him a glare, exasperated.

Tristan just blinked at her innocently.

Arianna, sitting across from them, gave the two a teasing look. “So, Emily, is this your boyfriend?”

Emily hesitated for a moment before realizing Arianna must’ve overheard Tristan’s little story to Andrew Lane earlier.

She didn’t see any point in keeping up the charade with Arianna.

She was about to explain when Tristan cut her off.

“That’s right—I’m Emily’s boyfriend. Tristan Davis. You can just call me Tristan, Ms. George.”

Emily frowned, turning to see Tristan grinning at her before leaning in and whispering in her ear, “They’re still here. Don’t blow our cover—unless you want things to get really awkward.”

Seeing she was truly getting annoyed, Tristan quickly straightened up, though the laughter still danced at the corners of his eyes.

Stifling his laughter, he leaned back, letting Emily collapse into his arms. He gently caught her wrists, steadying her, and slipped a leg under hers protectively.

He’d noticed earlier that the tables and chairs were spaced pretty far apart in the restaurant—if Emily kept thrashing about, she’d probably end up tumbling off her chair. And if she actually did fall, he’d be the one feeling guilty, and Emily would only get more upset.

Of course, from a distance, it looked like the two of them were completely wrapped up in each other, totally oblivious to the world around them.

“All right, all right, I’m done. I swear I’ll stop,” Tristan said soothingly, gently pushing Emily back into her seat. “It’s my fault. Don’t be mad.”

Emily yanked her wrists free from his grasp, glaring at him with a dark, stormy look.
