My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 522

Emily Blair kept her composure, a polite smile fixed on her lips. “Mr. Lane, I haven’t touched a piano in five years. And, as I just explained, I already declined your request.”

Andrew Lane nodded with theatrical seriousness, then waited for her to finish before saying, “Play me a piece, and I’ll talk to you about the rights for Black and White Rabbit.”

Emily nearly rolled her eyes. She barely managed to restrain herself. “Mr. Lane, if I remember correctly, you said that as long as I attended your and Mrs. Lane’s anniversary dinner, you’d consider selling me the rights.”

He listened patiently, his tone indifferent. “So, are you going to play or not?”

Changing the terms at the last minute—shameless.

Emily fought the urge to punch him right in the face.

The room held its breath for a few seconds. Andrew Lane seemed absolutely convinced she would give in—his calm, unhurried demeanor made Emily’s blood boil.

Inwardly, she clicked her tongue. “So, Mr. Lane, you’re saying that as long as I play, you’ll sell me the rights?”

Andrew’s answer was succinct. “Play.”

How is this man so impossible to deal with?

She was furious, but reality had a way of bringing people to their knees. Emily had a whole team counting on her for their paychecks and bonuses.

Balling her fists in silent frustration, she crossed the room and sat down at the grand piano.

Truth be told, she had just lied. She’d never really stopped practicing over the years.

Back when she first arrived in the city, she barely scraped by. There was no money for a piano—every cent in her account went into her start-up. She was running on empty, stressed and sleepless, with no time or energy left for music.

But once her company started to find its footing, and her bank account stabilized, the very first thing she did was buy a piano for her apartment. Whenever she found a spare moment, she’d sit and play, letting the music soothe and center her.
