My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 541

“So you’re just giving up?”

Emily Blair didn’t even break stride, her tone as steady as ever. “Not a chance.”

If she were the type to give up easily, she never would have made it this far.

Tristan Davis glanced down at her profile. Emily’s features were delicate, her skin pale and luminous. There was something captivating about her—those bright, clear eyes that seemed to catch the light when she was in a good mood, the natural curve of a smile at the corners of her lips.

Tonight, though, her lips were pressed together, and there was a shadow at the edge of her gaze.

“So what’s your plan?” Tristan asked.

She stopped just outside the hotel entrance, the cool night breeze brushing past them. The summer air had been stifling lately, and with Emily in such a thin dress, it looked like the wind might just sweep her away. Tristan felt a twinge of concern.

Emily looked thoughtful. “Why do you think Mr. Parker’s so into the piano?”

“A few years back, Mr. Parker’s wife passed away,” Tristan said quietly, “left him with just a daughter. He doted on her—could never say no. That little girl loved the piano, so he took her to every concert he could. Guess, over time, he grew to love it too.”

“So you’re thinking of approaching through the daughter?” Tristan’s brow furrowed.

She shot him a look. “Why do you make it sound so sinister? I just want to make friends with a kid.”

Tristan nodded. “Problem is, Mr. Parker keeps her well-hidden. I haven’t been able to find much. But if he’s come all the way to Eldervale, she’s probably with him.”

“No need to go digging,” Emily replied.

“You’ve got something?”

Emily glanced back at him. “I noticed a panda plush on Mr. Parker’s table earlier. I recognized the tag—it’s from the Eastside Zoo’s gift shop. With all this heat, their famous panda got sick from the weather, so they moved her back to the sanctuary for a few days. She’s being brought out again tomorrow. My guess? Mr. Parker and his daughter will be there.”
