My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 554

Emily Blair tried to lift her head to see who was coming, but as soon as she managed to raise it a little, someone firmly pushed it back down. She heard a low grunt above her.

Isabella Austin was rooted to the spot, stunned by what she was witnessing. She could only watch as Andrew Lane delivered two harsh kicks to the man on the ground before striding over. When Isabella finally caught a glimpse of the woman he was carrying, she froze in surprise.

“Andrew, what on earth is Emily doing here?”

Alex White, who had been flirting casually with the woman beside him, finally strolled over, looking utterly unconcerned.

“Mr. Lane, you just can’t resist playing the hero, can you?”

As he spoke, Alex glanced at the woman in Andrew’s arms—and his expression shifted instantly, his brow furrowing.

“Andrew Lane, what’s the meaning of this?”

Andrew looked down at Emily Blair, his eyes shadowed and unreadable.

“Let’s just get Emily home first,” he said quietly.

Isabella’s smile faltered. “...All right, but—”

Alex gave a dismissive snort and pulled his arm from his companion’s grasp. “All right, nothing. Andrew, if you even think about taking her away right now, I’ll take Isabella home myself.”

His date craned her neck, curiosity lighting up her face. “Who is she, Alex? Who’s that woman?”

Alex immediately pushed her head back. “Don’t look. It’s none of your business.”

She clicked her tongue in annoyance. “You’re all so secretive. I’m seriously starting to get annoyed—what’s the harm in just looking?”

Alex had no choice but to try to soothe his little firebrand. He reached up and patted her head. “Cynthia, it’s not that I don’t want you to see, but this woman isn’t worth your attention. Trust me—she doesn’t deserve it.”

Cynthia’s mood eased a bit, though she stuck out her lip. “Well, now you’ve just made me even more curious.”

Alex gently turned her face away again. “Come on, be good.”

Andrew’s hand dropped to his side where Emily had pulled away. Everyone’s attention was on her now.

Oblivious to the stares, Emily tottered forward, mumbling, “Need another drink... just one more...”

She shuffled along, nearly tripping over her own feet. If not for the wall, she would have tumbled to the floor. Letting out a soft yelp, she patted her chest in relief. “That was close.”

Andrew’s brow twitched, and he took a step toward her, but Alex immediately blocked his path, breaking Andrew’s line of sight.

Alex lifted his chin, glaring coldly at him.

Isabella, who would have preferred not to see Emily at all, forced herself to play peacemaker. “All right, all right, so she gets a ride home, big deal. Let’s just get it over with.”

Alex’s frown deepened. “Isabella, don’t.”

“I’m not taking her,” Andrew said suddenly, his voice flat.
