My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 570

To everyone’s surprise, Isabella Austin came back just as quickly as she’d left. Before Tristan Davis could step into the hospital room, she slammed the door shut and strode straight up to Emily.

Emily Blair watched her approach with calm detachment, almost amused.

Isabella’s voice was sharp and trembling with anger. “Emily Blair, what the hell is going on? Tell me the truth.”

Emily looked at her with mock concern. “Why, Isabella, you seem awfully anxious. Is something the matter?”

Isabella gritted her teeth, lowering her voice. “Drop the act, Emily. You know something, don’t you? You know I wasn’t the one who did this.”

Emily’s tone was gentle, almost sympathetic. “You’re right. I know it wasn’t you.”

Color drained from Isabella’s face. “I knew it—you set me up! You—”

“But Andrew Lane already suspects you,” Emily interrupted softly, taking a step closer, locking eyes with Isabella.

Isabella’s pupils shook. “No. That’s impossible. Andrew trusts me. He always has.”

Emily’s smile was almost pitying. “If he really trusted you, Isabella, why did he suddenly stop looking into what happened? Why did he pull back before he found the truth?”

Isabella bit her lip, her hands curling into fists.

Emily’s voice dropped to a whisper. “You know why. He was afraid of what he’d find if he kept digging. He was afraid it would lead straight to you. That’s why he stopped.”

“That’s not true!” Isabella’s voice rose, shrill and desperate.
