My Hockey Alpha novel Chapter 379

Nina

“Nina,” my mother said, approaching me just as I was beginning to ascent the stairs to my room, ” don’t forget you’re going to need a gown for the gala.”

I frowned and stopped on the stairs. “Couldn’t I just wear the one that I wore to the last party?”

My mother chuckled, linking her arm with mine.

We ascended the stairs together as she began to explain. “Honey, this gala is a big deal,” she said. ” You’re the Alpha King’s daughter. You need something special.”

As we walked into my room, I let out a sigh and sat down on the edge of my bed. “How do you even know so much about this festival, mom?” I found myself asking. “I thought you were just a blind as I’ve been to all of these traditions.”

My mother let out a sigh as she flung the doors of my walk-in closet open and began rifling through the racks.

“I was,” she said. “But I’ve been living here with your father consistently for the past six months.

I’ve learned a thing or two.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Living here’,” I teased.

“Just admit it, mom. You and my biological dad are in love.”

Her face turned a bright shade of red, but she said nothing. She pulled out an elegant black dress and held it up to the light, then shook her head, muttering under her breath.

I didn’t want to say anything. Most of those dresses belonged to Selena, and they had been passed onto me. It felt strange wearing them, but I chose not to be vocal about it. They were just dresses, right?

Finally, I pointed out a simple red dress. “How about that one?” I asked. “That’s pretty.”

My mother paused as she looked at the dress. The fabric was silky, and the silhouette would fall close to my body. Finally, she shook her head.

“No, it won’t do,” she said with a sigh as she hung it back up. “It’s a bit too sexy for an event like this.

A romantic dinner with your husband, maybe—”

“Mooom,” I groaned, my face turning red as I buried it in my pillow.

My mother giggled. “It’s not fun, is it?” she teased.

“Being put on the spot.”

I shook my head in my pillow. My mother continued, “You know what? The seamstress is actually on her way to alter a few things for me. I’ll have her do a fitting for you, and she’ll have a gown ready for you by the party. Does that sound good?”

Sighing, I sat up and met my mother’s gaze. I still wasn’t used to the royal treatment like this, but I couldn’t say no to my mother. Especially not when she looked so excited. And so, nodding, I caved in. ” Okay, mom. I’ll do that.”

“Oh, and by the way,” my mother said, her hand lingering on the doorknob, “you’re right. I am in love with your father.”

“Knew it,” I said with a smirk.

Hours passed, and I didn’t hear from Enzo. He seemed to be busy with my dad, though, so I let him be. Before I knew it, the seamstress had arrived anyway. A knock on the door pulled me out of the book I had been reading, and I called out, “Come in.” The door swung open, revealing my mother. A seamstress with a measuring tape draped around her neck trailed in behind her. She greeted me with a warm smile. “Good evening. I heard you might be looking for a custom dress for the gala, Miss Nina.”

I nodded, setting my book aside and standing from the plush armchair by the window. “I am,” I said, exchanging a look with my mom. “Although, I don’t really know what I’d want… Or what’s appropriate.” The seamstress nodded and approached me. “No worries, Miss Nina. Let me take your measurements, and we’ll have a gown tailored to perfection in no time.”

“I’m thinking a nice emerald green,” my mother said as the seamstress got to work. “Something to match her hair.”

“Green?” I said, scrunching up my nose. “What about black?”

“Nina,” my mom sighed, “you always wear black.”

“I like black.”

Just then, Enzo came into the room without knocking. All three of us looked up; the seamstress with her measuring tape wrapped around my waist, my mother sitting on the edge of the bed, and me standing in front of the mirror with my arms out to my sides.

Enzo shot us all a confused glance. “Uh, sorry for interrupting,” he said, stepping out. “I just—” I smiled at him, grateful for his presence. “Enzo, it’s fine. Come in.”

With a curt nod, Enzo stepped into the room, looking handsome in his suit. He stood there awkwardly for a moment, watching as the seamstress took my measurements.

“You look nice, Enzo,” my mother said.

“Oh, thanks,” Enzo said with a chuckle. “Aldric gave it to me. I was his… assistant for the day.”

I was a bit shocked, but more curious than anything. The seamstress, finishing her

measurements, gave me a nod and left the room. My mother followed her, shooting me a wink as she left.

And then, finally, Enzo and I were alone.

“Thank god,” I heaved, sinking back down into the armchair. “My mom wants me to have a custom dress for this Moon Goddess Festival gala this weekend.”

“Is that a problem?” Enzo asked as he began slipping his shoes off.

I shrugged. “It’s not,” I said, “but it just feels like … so much. I can’t deny the fact that I feel out of place here, away from Mountainview. And yet, at the same time, I also feel like I want to find a place here. Like I want to fit in, to learn more about our customs.”

Enzo nodded slowly as he listened. “I… understand completely,” he said with a chuckle. “I attended an Alpha Council meeting with your father, and when I told them about our pack, they laughed at me. Your father said our pack won’t be taken seriously here.”

I quirked an eyebrow. “He said that?”

Enzo nodded and sank onto the bed. “Yeah.”

“You want me to talk to him?” I asked, standing to meet him. I crossed over to him and he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close and burying his head in my belly.

“I am thinking rationally, Nina,” he said quietly. ”

Trust me, this has been on my mind for a while now, ever since I agreed to take that job, and especially since we found out you’re pregnant.” I frowned. “Lots of Alphas have jobs and families,” I insisted. “What would your father think right now if he found out that you would give up so easily?” Some paragraphs are incomplete if you are not reading this novel on Jobnib.com. Maybe it’s time to consider passing the leadership to someone who can dedicate more time and energy to the pack.”

Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized how torn he was between his responsibilities as an Alpha and his growing family and career. “Enzo, I understand your concerns,” I said gently, sitting next to him on the edge of the bed. “but we can find a way to make it work. We’re a team, remember?”

He gave me a faint smile, his thumb caressing my cheek. “I love you, Nina,” he whispered. “I just want what’s best for our pack and for our child.

That’s all.”

I leaned in and kissed him gently. “And I love you too, Enzo,” I replied. “But let’s try to think about this before we jump to any conclusions, okay?”

Enzo nodded. “Okay.”

As we sat there, deep in thought, a new idea began to form in my mind. Enzo had mentioned how he wanted our pack to be taken seriously, but it was becoming difficult with our lives splitting into two.

But suddenly, the idea became more concrete: with the Moon Goddess Festival coming so soon, maybe it was a chance to meld our two different worlds together, to find a way to find harmony in everything.

“Enzo,” I said suddenly, excitement bubbling up inside of me, “I think I might have an idea.” Enzo quirked an eyebrow. “What is it?”

I took a deep breath, then spilled my idea. “Look,” I said, “with the Moon Goddess Festival starting, maybe there’s a way to prove to the other Alphas that we’re a united front, that we’re not just a group of college kids with no direction.”

He looked at me, his interest piqued. “Go on.”

“So, what if we brought the pack here, for the gala this weekend?” I asked. “You can introduce the pack, and you can do it proudly. You can tell the world ‘Hey, we’re the New Peacekeepers, and we might be unconventional, but we’re serious’ What do you think?”

Enzo thought for a moment, chewing the inside of his cheek, before he spoke. “That’s… an intriguing idea, Nina,” he said slowly, as though he was tasting the words themselves. “It could be an opportunity to show the other Alphas that we’re a force to be reckoned with.”

I nodded enthusiastically. “Exactly! And besides, it’ll be good for the pack. It’ll remind them that we’re still in this together, that we’re not just Mountainview’s protectors, but also a part of something even bigger.”

For a moment, Enzo just looked at me. But then, his gaze softened, and he smiled. “You’re a genius, Nina.”

I grinned. “I know.”

Suddenly, however, the door flung open. Enzo and I both jerked our heads up, our hearts pounding to see my mother, of all people, walk in. She had a concerned look on her face, and she slipped into the room, glancing over her shoulder before she quietly shut the door behind her.

“Mom?” I asked, cocking my head. “Need something?”

“Nina,” my mother said, taking a deep breath as she turned to face us. “I heard everything.”

Enzo and I exchanged glances, shocked. It wasn’t like my mother to eavesdrop, but something about her demeanor gave me pause. “And?” I asked, furrowing my brow.

She took another deep breath. “And..’I don’t think it’s such a good idea to bring your friends here, to the werewolf realm.”
