She looked straight at him. "You know I didn't commit that hit-and-run. This whole situation is your fault because you never made a real effort to find the actual culprit. If the real driver was exposed, neither I nor the Forrester Group would be in this mess."
"Rebekah, are you still trying to deny it?" Benjamin snapped, his anger fueled by guilt. He couldn't possibly expose Candice; it would ruin her life. "What's done is done!" he fumed. "Do you really think it's that easy to find someone who committed perjury?"
Without waiting for her reply, he stormed out of the room.
Rebekah locked the door behind him and picked up her drawing board, starting over.
Meanwhile, in the Southborough airport lounge, a man in sunglasses was scrolling through trending topics on his tablet. He wore a black suit with subtle gold embroidery, and his blond hair was perfectly styled. Though the sunglasses hid his eyes, his exposed features were strikingly handsome.
He had a gray earpiece in.
"You can't just suppress public opinion. We'll leave it for now. I'll find out who framed my little sister once I get to The Capital."
…
"I know, I know. Don't you trust me? Even without suppressing the news, I have ways to clear her name."
…
"Alright, I have to go. My flight is boarding. Get the celebration dinner ready. I'll be bringing our little sister back home in style."
…
With a flick of his well-manicured fingers, he ended the call. Rory Powell handed the tablet to his assistant. "Tell Vida I've agreed to the publicity stunt with her new starlet, but I have a condition."
'Maybe she's just using him for clout?'
'Rory has been in the business for over a decade and never had a single scandal. You think this could happen without his permission?'
…
The internet erupted in debate, all centered around the authenticity of Rory's rumored relationship, and the story spread like wildfire, burying Rebekah's scandal completely.
Jensen was reviewing Rory's file when the news broke. Rory Powell, a decorated actor who had won every major award both at home and abroad. A grand slam winner. He also had another identity: the third son of the powerful Powell family of Southborough.
A dark, calculating look entered Jensen's eyes. Rory was clearly running interference for Rebekah. Could she really be one of the Powells?
