At city hall, Rebekah and Benjamin filed the paperwork. The clerk informed them they could pick up their divorce certificate in one month.
"Since it's official, it wouldn't be right for me to stay at the Forrester Estate," Rebekah said. "I'll go back and pack my things. I'll be out by tomorrow."
"Do whatever you want," Benjamin snapped.
As he turned to leave, he shot her a final, condescending look. "I'll be waiting to see how long it takes for you to come crawling back."
He was gone. He was still convinced this was all just a fit of pique, that she was just angry he hadn't defended her, that he had sided with Candice. In his mind, she was a materialistic woman who had just lost her connection to a wealthy family. Without him and his money, she would be nothing. He gave her a few days, at most, before she came begging him to take her back.
Rebekah rolled her eyes at his retreating back. As she prepared to leave, a voice startled her.
"Has he always been this awful to you?"
She spun around to see Rory Powell standing there. She didn't recognize him at first; he was wearing a mask and sunglasses that covered most of his face. If it weren't for his distinctive voice, she might have thought she was being mugged.
"Have you been following me?"
"I just came to watch the finale," he said with a smile, pushing his sunglasses down slightly to reveal his eyes. "You said you're moving out. Do you have a place to stay? Do you need any help?"
Rebekah found his sudden friendliness a bit overwhelming. He was her idol, but he was also a stranger.
"No, thank you. I'll find a place."
Rory saw the guardedness in her eyes and understood. "Actually, I…"
Rebekah laughed. "I have to wait another month, but at least I've made it to shore."
In one month, she would be divorced and leaving The Capital for good. She made a mental note to treat Jensen to dinner before she left; he had helped her so much.
Before she could ask, however, he spoke first.
"Since you're moving out, you should stay at that apartment again. My friend isn't using it."
Rebekah considered it. She only needed a place for a month, and a hotel would be expensive. She agreed.
"Okay, but you have to let me pay your friend rent for the month. The standard market rate."
