Rebekah suddenly felt a flush of embarrassment. "I can do it myself…" she murmured.
She reached for the bottle, but Jensen moved it out of her grasp. "I'm taking you to see Daphne Rivers tomorrow. You must have gotten hurt a lot while living with the Forresters, didn't you?"
"It was fine."
"The mark on your face hasn't even faded yet. How is that fine?"
Rebekah subconsciously touched her cheek where Benjamin had struck her. Jensen must have seen it on the live stream. A wave of awkwardness washed over her.
Thankfully, he didn't press the issue. After he finished applying the medicine, he just gave her a few instructions. In the middle of it, his phone rang. Whatever was said on the other end made his expression turn grim.
"If you're busy, you should go," Rebekah said. "I can finish unpacking on my own."
Jensen didn't argue. "I ordered some food for you. Get some rest after you're done." With that, he left in a hurry.
Rebekah bit her lip. Jensen was almost too considerate. She couldn't believe how much he'd changed over the years, maturing into such a caring man. His future girlfriend was going to be very lucky.
After she finished settling in, Rebekah lay down in bed and, for the first time in a long time, fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
In stark contrast to her tranquility, a suffocating gloom had descended upon the Forrester Estate.
Benjamin sat on the living room sofa while Shawn knelt on the floor before him. The little boy kept sneaking glances at his father, his eyes filled with guilt. Benjamin's face was as dark and menacing as a storm-swept sky.
"Daddy, you promised you'd get me a new mommy…"
Shawn fidgeted with his fingers, then scooted closer on his knees to take his father's hand. "Daddy, now that you've divorced that woman, can Candice be my mommy? Ms. Candice said you and that woman must be very sad right now and that I should be nice to you both, but I just don't like her. I really want Ms. Candice to be my mom."
Benjamin looked down at his son, a near-perfect miniature of himself, and his heart softened. He pulled the boy into his lap. "No matter what happens, Rebekah is still your mother."
"I don't care! I don't want her to be my mommy anymore!"
Benjamin's patience wore thin. He handed Shawn to a housekeeper. "Take him to bed."
As the housekeeper carried a protesting Shawn away, Benjamin leaned back on the sofa and pinched the bridge of his nose. His phone rang. He answered the unfamiliar number.
"Hello, am I speaking with Rebekah's husband?"
