Chapter 25
Rebekah had to stop herself from laughing.
They had hidden their marriage for years, and now, on the verge of divorce, the world still didn’t know she was Benjamin’s wife, let alone compliment them as a couple. But it didn’t matter anymore. Soon, she would be free.
Masking the flicker of emotion in her eyes, she took a deep breath and walked out of the dressing room.
Jensen was waiting for her on the sofa. He had changed into a suit as well, his silver hair now swept back from his face. The simple cut looked exceptionally refined on him. Rebekah’s heart gave a little jolt. She had seen him angry, seen him at his
lowest… but she had never seen him like this.
He sat with a casual air, one long leg crossed over the other, a nearly finished cigarette between his lips. The smoke veiled his features, lending his eyes a distant, cold look.
When he saw her standing hesitantly at the doorway, he raised an eyebrow, stubbed out the cigarette, and his lips curved into a smile. The chill in his eyes was instantly replaced by a gentle warmth.
“Found a dress?” he asked, his voice soft. The fleeting harshness she’d seen a moment ago felt like a figment of her imagination.
The neckline of Rebekah’s dress was daringly low, leaving a beautiful, elegant expanse of her collarbones exposed.
She walked toward him, suddenly feeling self–conscious under his gaze, and managed a quiet, “Yes.”
When he remained silent, she asked tentatively, “Does it not look good? Maybe it’s not appropriate.” She had never worn anything like it. After years of being a mother, she was finally dressing for herself.
Jensen’s eyes lingered for a second on the exposed skin of her lower back before he looked away, a flicker of something unreadable in his gaze. His Adam’s apple bobbed.
“It’s perfect.”
He lowered his gaze, hiding the sudden heat rising within him.

Chapter 28
It was too perfect. So perfect he wanted to hide her away where no one else could see her. The dress looked as if it had been made for her. Her naturally cool beauty, combined with the vibrant gown, created a stunning contrast, like a rose blooming in the desert–beautiful, yet resilient.
An awkward silence settled between them.
After a long moment, Rebekah was the one to break it. “What time is the gala? Should we get going?”
