Jensen's eyes narrowed, but he said nothing.
On the other end of the line, Candice giggled. "We've met before. You're handsome, I'll give you that. But your taste in women is questionable if you're interested in someone with a record like Rebekah's."
A dangerous glint entered Jensen's eyes. "Where is she?" His voice was so cold it could have frozen water. Even over the phone, Candice felt a shiver run down her spine.
"My sister made a mistake, so Benjamin is punishing her," she said, her tone still light and playful. "He's locked her in a dark room to reflect. Are you going to come and save her? Play the knight in shining armor? I guarantee she'll be all over you after that."
"After all," she added sweetly, "that's how she latched onto Benjamin."
With that, she hung up.
Jensen's grip on his phone tightened, the veins on his hand standing out. His face was a thunderous mask, his eyes red with fury. He wanted to storm the Forrester estate and tear Benjamin and Candice limb from limb.
But he couldn't. Rebekah and Benjamin were still married. If he went there now, Benjamin would use it against her and ruin what was left of her reputation.
With a monumental effort, he reined in his rage and dialed another number.
"I'd like to report a case of domestic violence."

Half an hour later, the sound of police sirens echoed through the Forrester estate.
Rebekah was huddled in the darkness, her nerves stretched to the breaking point. She hadn't seen any snakes or insects, but the feeling of being watched by some unseen predator was suffocating. She was crying, shaking, on the verge of a complete breakdown.
It slowly dawned on her that someone had called the police to report that she was being abused. She looked up and saw Hortensia glaring at her, a silent warning not to say the wrong thing. Benjamin's own expression was cold and detached, as if her suffering meant nothing to him.
A bitter smile touched Rebekah's lips. She looked at the officer and nodded. "Yes. My husband locked me in the attic. It's completely dark in there. He said he wouldn't let me out until I admitted I was wrong."
"Rebekah! What nonsense are you talking about?" Hortensia cried, terrified for her son's reputation.
Rebekah knew no one in this house would stand up for her. Her only hope was that the police would take her away. She could not go back to that attic.
An officer turned to Benjamin. "This is unacceptable! False imprisonment is a crime, you know that?"
Benjamin's face hardened, his gaze locking onto Rebekah like a viper. After a long moment, he put an arm around her, forcing a smile for the officers. "We're husband and wife. It was just a little spat."
