Basil stepped out of the car and immediately spotted Rebekah and the others at the entrance. She was wearing a white embroidered dress that accentuated her slender waist. With just a touch of makeup, her delicate features seemed to glow. She was, he had to admit, breathtakingly beautiful.
He faltered for a second before his expression hardened again as he walked over.
Rebekah saw him and felt a wave of relief. "Mr. Basil! Do you have an invitation? Mr. Quinn didn't give me one, he just told us to go in together."
Basil pulled out an invitation and handed it to the greeter. Rebekah sighed in relief, but his next words hit her like a punch to the gut.
"I don't know her."
Without a second glance at her, Basil walked into the hotel. Rebekah stared after him, completely stunned.
Shawn burst out laughing. "How pathetic! Did you really think just anyone would get you in? You're a cripple, but you still have the nerve to show up at a designer conference. You're such an embarrassment to our family!" He pointed imperiously at the two greeters. "What are you waiting for? Get rid of her!"
The greeters looked at Rebekah with disdain. "All dressed up like that, hoping to snag a rich man inside? I've seen your type before. Get lost before I make you."
"Move it, you're blocking the entrance for our esteemed guests. A nobody like you has no business being here."
Rebekah's brow furrowed. Panicked, she decided to call Quentin. But before she could pull out her phone, his voice echoed from inside.
"What's going on here?"
"Mr. Quinn," the two greeters said, immediately snapping to attention.
Quentin looked at Rebekah and smiled. "Miss Fletcher, there you are. I forgot to give you an invitation. I texted you but didn't get a reply, so I came down to check."
Rebekah glanced at her phone and saw several missed messages from him. "I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking at my phone."
"No worries. Come on in."
