Apphia

It’s serene.

Very quiet.

I love the quiet.

I slowly open my eyes. The first thing I see is a high, bland ceiling.

I scan the room with my eyes, turning my head. I’m surrounded by medical equipment. It’s a hospital room–except it looks like a suite, and it’s airy. The furniture is fancy, all white. There are three people in the room.

A young woman and a man chat buoyantly on a sofa on the left while a younger man, a teenager, occupies the other. He’s furiously pressing on his mobile phone.

“Our sleeping princess is awake!” The girl on the sofa gets up and comes to me with a perfect smile on her rosy lips. She is tall, gorgeous, curvaceous, and has flawless bronze skin. Long braids complement her soft facial features and clear sky–blue eyes. She wears a short blue dress and high–heeled shoes.

She stares at me in awe, the look I get when people see my eyes. However, her stare doesn’t turn to disdain. She seems mesmerized by my eyes.

“How do you feel, sweetie?” she asks, her voice kind and warm. “The Doctor did say you’ll feel odd. Dizzy, perhaps,”

I nod; I feel dizzy and a little nauseous. My throat is dry and aching.

“Would you like some water?” she asks. I nod my head.

She helps me to a sitting position by pressing a button on the headboard, and brings a glass of water to my lips. I drain it all.

I have many questions to ask them, but I’m unsure where to begin.

“So, you are in a hospital in Sapphire Royal Lycan Pack,” she informs me. I know the pack. It is the largest and strongest pack in the shifter realm, led by the lycan king and Queen. How did I end up here?

“My brother brought you here when some wolves attacked you, and you’ve been in a coma for 7 days.”

7 days? Attacked? How? I try to remember something, but my memory is fuzzy. I don’t even recall being attacked or why. The last thing I remember is Aya Amir and me in the laundry room.

“Doctor White said your memory won’t be great the first few days. Don’t force it, okay?”

I nod, and she gives me a bright smile.

“I have training. I gotta go,” the tall boy on the phone earlier says, getting on his feet. He has dark blue- gray eyes and curly hair.

Chapter 15

“This is my little brother, Knox,” the girl introduces. However, she doesn’t tell me her name. Knox gives me a peace sign before exiting the room.

“My name is Lilibet, but I go by Lily, like the flower. It is my mother’s favorite flower.”

“What’s your name?” the other gentleman in the room asks. He smiles, seeming friendly and pleasant. He is tall and good–looking, with broad shoulders, an angular face, and brown hair.

“Apphia- Apphia Aeson,” I say, my voice raspier than ever.

“How old are you, Apphia?” Lily asks.

“I’m seventeen,” I reply. My mind is working overtime trying to remember, even though she said not to force it. I feel pain in my scar and my eyes. I wince, and Lily frowns.

“Apphia, please don’t put pressure on yourself,” she says as the door opens. A female doctor enters the room with a clipboard, looking relieved to see me. She is petite, with short blonde hair, and has a friendly, round face.

“Hello. It’s good to see you awake,” she says. Her voice is clear, and her eyes are assessing me.

She introduces herself as Doctor White, and immediately, her fingers start to examine me. Doctor White asks questions, and I answer them to the best of my ability. She flashes her light in my eyes and exhales.

“Her vitals are normal, and the bruises on your arms and body are gone, too. Impressive,” she seems
