Chapter 21
Nicholas
Apphia had regained her memory and was depressed, refusing to eat. She woke up to nightmares. Lily told me she spends her days writing in her notebook and journal, and also takes a lot of showers. She locks herself in the bathroom for hours, crying. My heart broke to hear that, so I decided to visit her. I missed her so much.
“I’m going to see her,” I tell my sister over the phone. She has been staying by her side. I’m scared to leave her alone for fear she might self–harm or escape.
“Nicholas, what about the necklace? Did you send people to look for it?” she asks.
“I did, but they couldn’t find it,” I sigh.
“Oh, no. It has a lot of sentimental value. Poor girl was sobbing when she realized it was missing,” she informs me. I hope the staff I sent out to look for it finds it. I could do it myself, but time didn’t allow me, as I’ve been in meetings constantly. I end the call and drive to the general hospital.
I enter the royal hospital suite easily, as I know the code. She isn’t in the bedroom, but I feel her in the closet. I inhale her intoxicating scent, and Nico howls in my head. She smells delicious.
She steps out, and my body stiffens. Her scent drives my lycan and me bonkers.
I suck in a breath and turn to face her. My throat becomes dry, my mind stops working as I stare at her. She looks so innocently sexy in her little dress and black tights. My dick twitches in my pants. Fuck, I want her. I want to claim her and put my mark on her slender neck. Who wouldn’t! She’s absolutely gorgeous, and fucking wearing tights! I swallow, fuck. Big mistake. I should have known after what she went through; she’d be scared. Apphia takes a step back, her eyes frightened.

Control yourself, dickass. She’s sensitive,‘ Nico growls. I gape at the accusation; he, too, was lusting over her.

Apphia,” I start, approaching, but she takes a step back. I’ve never experienced heartbreak before, but I imagine it must feel like this. She doesn’t want me close. Is she scared of me? Does she think I’ll hurt her? I’d never hurt her, ever.
After talking to her, I suggest going to the rooftop garden. Lily mentioned she wanted to leave the suite. Her face lit up at my suggestion, which makes me happy.
I try to hold her hand, but she flinches away. Nico and I whimper. We were completely smitten with this girl.
Once we arrive at the rooftop garden, Apphia feels at peace, her face towards the sun. There is a new glow about her that makes her even more appealing.
We sit on the bench, and I let her enjoy this moment. Now that she has remembered, she can tell me the person who hurt her and why those puny wolves were after her. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil.
“How do you feel, Apphia?”

“I’m getting there. Day by day,” it’s good to hear her lovely voice.
“Who did it?” I ask. I didn’t intend my voice to be so cold, but it is. I need to know who hurt her. Was he part
of the group hunting her down like an animal in the middle of the night when I found her? “Was it a boyfriend?” The words burn my tongue.
“No,” she whispers.
“Was it one of those bastards hunting you down?”
“No,” she shudders. I want to wrap an arm around her shoulder to keep her warm and safe, but I restrain myself.
“The doctor showed me your long medical chart. Your fractures are old, meaning you were abused for years. Are you part of a pack?”
She averts my gaze by looking at the flower bed. Why is she not saying anything? Is she protecting someone?
“I’m not ready to talk about it,”
