Pathetic,‘ my lycan murmurs.
I caress her hair softly. Her eyes stir, and she opens them, “Hey, I slept. I’m sorry,”
“It’s alright,”
Are you leaving?”
“Yes. It’s past midnight.”
She glances past me to the window and yawns,” It’s raining outside.”
I kiss her forehead, my lips lingering. I hear her heart thumping, and I swell, delighted I make her heart race. I have to leave, but my lycan is protesting.
At this moment, I knew Apphia would be the center of my existence. She is a treasure, my treasure. She is as precious as the breath one seeks underwater. Apphia Aeson is my first breath of air on the surface.
Apphia’s pov
The next day, I woke up feeling pleasant and my chest lighter. It is the first time in a week that the pain in my chest has eased up, and I don’t feel like crying. Usually, waking up is a difficult task for me after regaining the memories of that dreadful night.
I sit up and stretch my arms. My fingers reach up to touch my forehead. I can still feel Nicholas‘ lingering kiss on my skin, and it makes my breath catch in my throat.
I slide out of bed to go to the bathroom, but I’m surprised to see a lotus flower on my bedside table under a book with a pure white note. I pick it up; it’s written in italic font.
‘Good morning, Apphia. I had a lovely time with you yesterday. You only deserve the best,” I smile and carry the half–bloomed lotus to my nose. It smells amazing. I read the title of the new novel, Little Women. I’ve never read it before.
The door opens, and Lily comes in, carrying a tray of dishes in her hands. She smiles at me, “Good morning, Apphia, you look luminous this morning.”
“Good morning, Lily,”
“Does your rare smile and blush have to do with a certain alpha prince that came to visit yesterday?” She scrutinizes me, a wicked smirk on her lips.
“No. I’ll have a shower,” I mumble, running to the bathroom. Was I smiling? I didn’t realize it!
I strip off my clothes and get in the shower. As I wash my body with warm water, my mind drifts to Nicholas. Damn, why am I thinking about him now? The shower is all hot and steaming. I raise my index finger, write his name on the glass wall; I erase and rewrite it. Alpha Prince Nicholas Lavista. Nicholas
Lavista. Nicholas.
I shake my head and remove all thoughts of him from my mind.

Exiting the bathroom, I sport white tailored pants with a long–sleeved tan tank top and slip into my
pumps.
I find Lily in the bedroom, sipping on coffee. She seems deep in thought and a little blue.
“Lily,” I call softly. She lifts her head to me, and I notice her eyes are red. I hadn’t noticed earlier because she was wearing stylish sunglasses.
Are you alright?” I ask, concerned.
“Yes, I’m good. Please have breakfast,” she says.
I glance at the tray, which includes eggs on toast, sausages, and a fruit bowl. I take small bites of the food and drink my orange juice.
“Done?” she asks.
“Yes,” I nod. Lily frowns, looking at the tray of food. She opens her mouth, but I interrupt her,
“I’m so full. I promise to eat extra at lunch.”
“I’ll need to ask Doctor White if we can increase the dose of your appetite pills,” she mumbles. I try to eat for them, but I just can’t. Food has no taste in my mouth, no matter how good it looks.
