“So, he’s king?” I ask.

“Not officially. He has yet to be inducted. Maybe next month, as my father was still finishing some business in the office,” he answers.

“How old is Nicholas?”

“He’s twenty–two years old,” he answers. We have a four–year age gap. Nicholas has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders. He is only 22 years old, yet the leader of the most powerful realm. We grew up in different worlds. Our worlds are apart.

“Is Blade his beta?” I ask.

“Yes,”

“Is Lily gamma?” I ask. From the interaction between Lily and Nicholas, I can tell they are close.

“No, Lily is his advisor. They are quite close and work hand in hand, His Gamma is Drake,‘

We are going to the next game when I notice a colorful ice cream booth. A fond memory of my brother and me flashes in my head.

“I’ll get ice cream; let’s go,” he says. I must have been staring.

“Thanks,” I follow him. I pick my favorite ice cream, butter pecan, while he drinks a vanilla milkshake. I almost moan when I eat my ice cream; the flavor melts in my mouth, and I feel tears at the back of my eyes. It’s delicious.

I’m nearly done with my ice cream when Knox gets to his feet abruptly,

“Oh shit! Apphia, we are late!”

I get to my feet, and we bolt from the booth, running through the station and leaving quite a commotion. My legs and lungs are burning when we arrive at our destination, but unfortunately, we

miss it.

We miss it by two minutes,” he mutters. ” Fuck, I’m a dead man,”

“My brother will kill me,” Knox runs a hand through his thick black hair. He grabs his phone from his back pocket, ready to call someone, but freezes.

“We have to run,” he whispers. Run? Why? Before I can ask, an angry voice booms.

“You kids!” I glance towards the voice. Two officers in uniform are pointing and coming towards us. They look pissed.

“Run!” he shouts.

We take off, running to goddess knows where. We keep knocking people to the ground as the officers are chasing after us through the streets now.

Chapter 27

+25 Bonus

We turn a corner, still running. I’m laughing like we won’t get in trouble when caught. Honestly, this is fun. Knox pulls me into a hidden spot and places a finger on his lip, telling me to be quiet. I nod, but I’m still smiling.

“I think we have lost them,” he whispers, poking his head out to check.

“I’ve never done anything like that before. It’s stimulating,” I say.

“I’m an expert at evading the law. You are in good hands, Princess,” he winks.

He wears a severe face. “Okay, there is a reception desk over there. We should ask what time the train is returning. If it delays, we can get a taxi and head back to the hospital before they discover you are missing.”

We go towards the reception desk, and before Knox can get a word out to the woman behind the desk, four men in uniform surround us.

“Sweet goddess,” he murmurs.

“Don’t run, or we’ll have to taser you,” one officer says. “You kids are charged with misconduct,”

“Are they taking us to jail?” I whisper to Knox.

“Just train station jail. They will need our IDs and call our parents,” Knox frowns.

“so much for being a law–evading expert,” I mumble.

“Don’t worry about it. The cops will release us when they see my ID,” he grins.

The train station jail is pretty, with cubicles and a lobby with large sofas.

We sit, and someone asks if we want something to drink. We both refused.

“Officers, my name is Knox Lavista. Can we pay a fine or something? We have to leave,”

“We know who you are. We have already called the castle to inform them of your whereabouts, my prince. They are sending someone to fetch you,” the officer says politely.

“I’m fucked,” he murmurs, slamming into the chair.

“Dr. Hudson won’t be too pleased with me,” I murmur, biting my lips. I lied to her.

We are waiting in the lobby. I’m sure by now they know I’ve left the hospital. Dr. White and Hudson will be so mad, not to mention Lily. What was I thinking?

“By the way, my brother and Lily know you’re with me,” he says.
