Chapter 39
We went again, and he beat me three consecutive times. I didn’t know I had a competitive bone until I was on the dance machine and wanted to win. Drake may not be the most pleasant winner, and I want to laugh in his face and throw back the stupid victory dance his face. So, we will go again, as per my insistence.
This time, I’m focused and ignore everything around me. My gaze fixed on the screen, and my ears on the beat. By the time the machine stops, I’m declared a winner. I’m panting. My chest is hot. I glance at Drake; his face has fallen with shock. Gaining all my strength at this moment, I shout and do his silly dance,
“I win, I win, and you lose,” I move my body in a dance. My legs are like jello, and as I attempt to get down from the machine, my knees buckle, but large, strong hands catch me. I look up at my savior, and my eyes meet Nicholas‘. His eyes sparkle gold, and for a moment, I’m sure he’ll kiss me. I want him to. I’d never wanted to be kissed as I am right now. His lips come dangerously close to mine, and my heart leaps.
“Good job, Apphia,” he whispers. I avert my gaze, unable to mask my disappointment. He helps me to the leather couch.
“Thanks,” I murmur. Drake gives me a bottle of water from the fridge, and I gulp it down.
“You exhausted yourself, eh?” Lily chuckles.
“I wanted to win just once,” I say, catching my breath.
“It must feel good,”
“Glorious,” I beam.
Drake pats my hair, “You’re getting there.”
“I beat you,” I grin. I raise my arms weakly in the air.

We all got carried away in the recreation room, and we didn’t realize hours had passed until Drake’s stomach growled loudly,
I’m starving. Can we go and eat?” he says, getting up from his game. Everyone agrees. Lily was teaching me how to play pool. I put down the long pool stick, and we exit the room and go to the kitchen.

Lily suddenly holds my hand as we walk to the kitchen. However, her eyes are glazed, indicating she is mind–linking. I glance at Nicholas, who is walking next to me. His eyes are also glazed. He looks annoyed by something, while Lily has a smug expression on her face. Are they fighting about something?
Drake pushes the huge kitchen door open with a grin, “This is my favorite place in the castle, and honestly, the only reason I’m staying here!”
My jaw is on the floor. The kitchen is ten times bigger than the Ivory Moon pack kitchen. Everything is sparkling new, and an assembly of chefs in black and white chef jackets and black pants stands in line with their heads bowed low.

“This is heavenly,” I murmur.
“Apphia, tell the chefs whatever you want to eat. They are the best in the city.”
I move to the center, “Er… can I make the food instead?” I ask.
The chefs look uneasy hearing my request. An older woman with Afro hair and a slim hourglass figure steps forward with a polite smile,
“No need, my lady. That’s why my team and I are here. We prepare all the meals for the royals and guests.”
