**In Fragile Moments We Discover Strength Hidden In Stillness**
**Chapter 43**

The warmth within me was kept at bay, thanks to the soothing potion Luna Savannah had sent my way. It was a strange sensation, knowing that I hadn’t laid eyes on Apphia since I’d left her by the tranquil waters of the royal lake. Yet, her presence lingered in the air around me, a sweet reminder that made my heart ache with longing. Throughout the night, I had fought the urge to seek her out, but thankfully, Blade had been there, a steadfast guardian against my impulsive desires.
As I prepared for the day ahead, I could feel the weight of anticipation pressing down on me. I stepped out of the suite, and just then, the door to Apphia’s room swung open. Time seemed to freeze as I caught sight of her. Her eyes were red, hinting at the emotions she had been wrestling with, and though she avoided my gaze, she remained rooted in place. Gathering every ounce of courage I could muster, I walked toward her, heart racing.
“Good morning,” I offered, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me. She merely nodded, her eyes still cast downwards, avoiding mine. I ran a hand through my hair, frustration bubbling within me. Did she think I hadn’t enjoyed the kiss? Did she believe I no longer wanted her?
“I’m truly sorry for what happened at the lake,” I continued, my voice softer now. “I know you must think the worst of me, but there was an emergency I couldn’t evade.”
Finally, she lifted her gaze to meet mine, and I saw the softness in her eyes, a glimmer of understanding.
“You could have just told me, instead of leaving like that,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Unable to resist, I leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss on her cheek. The rapid thump of her heart was unmistakable, echoing in the silence between us.
“Forgive me, baby,” I said, the endearment slipping out before I could stop myself. It startled her slightly, and I couldn’t help but notice the blush that crept across her cheeks. The last time I had used that term, it had been a playful tease, a test of her reaction, and it had been utterly worth it.
“Is everything alright now?” she asked, her tone laced with concern.
“Yes, I handled it,” I replied, offering a reassuring smile.
“That’s good,” she muttered, relief washing over her features.
As we made our way downstairs, I took her hand in mine, and to my delight, she didn’t pull away.
“What do you have planned for today?” I inquired, hoping to keep the conversation flowing.
“I have a session with Dr. Hudson, and then I’ll just stay in my room to write,” she informed me. I nodded, knowing the doctor had mentioned her progress. I led her to the dining room, feeling a sense of warmth wash over me.
“I would love to read what you write,” I suggested, my curiosity piqued.
“It’s not for anyone’s eyes,” she replied firmly, stopping in her tracks. I feigned a pout, and she reached out, her finger playfully squeezing the corners of my mouth.
“Pouting doesn’t work on me, Mr.,” she teased, a hint of laughter in her voice.
After breakfast, I took her to the indoor garden, where Dr. Hudson awaited her. As I caressed her cheek, I felt a surge of affection.
“Have a lovely day today,” I said, producing a red rose I had discreetly plucked. I tucked it into her white hair, and she looked ethereal, like a goddess gracing the earth.
“Where did you find that? I didn’t even see you grab it,” she exclaimed, her face lighting up as she reached up to touch the delicate petals.
“Magic,” I replied, flicking my fingers across her beautiful face with a playful grin.
“I didn’t know you were a magician as well, Alpha,” she said, her long lashes casting playful shadows over her cheeks. There was a shy smile playing on her lips.
“Oh, I have many talents,” I whispered, leaning in closer, relishing the moment.
“Can you show me another trick?” she asked boldly, stepping nearer.
“Are you sure you want me to?” I teased, leaning even closer. She swallowed, her eyes locked onto mine, and with a gentle kiss on the corner of her mouth, I felt her heart race once more.
“I can make your heart and stomach flutter just by being close to you, Apphia. I bet I’ve put butterflies in your stomach,” I smirked, relishing the way her breath caught.
She exhaled, trying to hide a smile. “I’m impressed with your skills, but does it really count as magic? I think you have that effect on me and many other women. You disarm us.”
